Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Fatty hits a HR once every 6 to 7 games. Still, its bad production for a 1B/DH type. What kind of mechanical adjustment is needed to increase launch angle ? >> 174/22 ans = 7.9091 Every 8 games or so. Keith Hernandez says he doesn't know if "that swing" will play. Says there is too much of an uppercut so he is hitting the top of the ball. I know this from watching the Mets broadcast the other night. Keith seems to think Vlad's swing needs to be shorter and flatter. They have made adjustments I believe late last year, and for a 2-3 week period this year... but the adjustments resulted in more strikeouts and less exit velocity so Vlad seemed to have given up on them quickly.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Very significant night in the road to Indy Ball. Vlad sits tonight so Villar/Panik/Shaw can all be in the lineup at the same time. Every other time he has sat in his career it's been "load management". But with 1 week to go is this really "load management"? If he was playing well he'd be in there. Not an outrageous decision, especially given the repeated defensive mistakes, but still a new era has begun. Vlad now has to play above replacement to get playing time. Makes sense. He was given 600 plate appearances or so. Going forward if he is below average he will lose playing time and risk a demotion, the days of unlimited playing time without performance are probably over.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Lmao Maybe they sat him because of the pitch that bounced off his helmet. And yes, maybe I'm being over dramatic.... If Sitting Vlad for c+ players becomes a regular thing next year it's more of a concern.... If he keeps on playing like this he deserves to be sat down for c+ players.... Hopefully mediocre Vlad ends April 1st 2021 and he arrives as an A player.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 They should convince him to spend more time in Dunedin with the Blue Jays and not the Domincan. Evidently he has a s***** team around him when he's in the Domincan. But I assume most of his family is over there, so doubt he buys in.

If you follow him on Instagram, all he does it eat when he's back home. They need to get a trained chef to follow him around during the offseason like they did with Pablo Sandoval.

Your clueless homerism knows no bounds. It would be easier to stomach if you were a troll like the Dogg or something. Mods: I hope that wasn't too mean.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 lol...do u even know defense matters...no he has not been as good as biggio. You say that like defense is the only area where he's better than Vlad. He's like 20% better at hitting and probably 500% better at baserunning.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 My name is Harry Lee Dickey and I approve this message. Wow. Late winter thought. Even if Vlad struggles again (I don't think he will, I heard a rumor he is now back to being a 230 pound lighting cat and will hit the ball like he did as a 19 year old in Montreal and New Hampshire)... well even if he did it still wouldn't be a good idea to send him to Indy Ball or worse another team. I thought about this because I saw a random tweet about Gary Shefield by a Brewers fan still pissed, 30 years later, that they traded him. 1988 - Gary really bad 1989 - Gary at 20 worse than Vlad at 20 1990 - Gary OK in a Vlad is OK kind of way, but not amazing 1991 - Gary really bad (.194 Gary biggest failure ever) Announcement - Gary traded to the Padres 1992 Gary hits like dream Vlad would hit (.330 30+ homeruns run at the triple crown) After lots of failure Gary very good, and remains that way for 16 years or so

I think it is a pretty good take. I will not be signing the apology form. I was up and down about Vlad and I am sure many of us were. I was about to send him to Indy ball many times, however while irrational about it at times, I also came to my senses once and a while. I think I also posted the lightning cat theory somewhere else in this thread... If Vlad could return to being a lightning cat, like he was late March 2018 in Montreal he would hit like no other!
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Reconvene early October 2021. Covid ball is too short to make that conclusion. Back in the day I used to follow the 90s Jays (probably didn't guess I try not to ramble about it too much) My favourite player was John Olerud (probably didn't guess either) Around game 45 of the 91 season he looked terrible - .203 ..298 .349 Round game 45 of the 92 season looked terrible as well. Recovered in both cases to put up decent years Then went bananas in 93. Then around game 50 of the 95 season looked awful hitting .230 again. But recovered to almost hit .300. Then they sat him for Jacob Brumfield and sent him to the Mets, but he rebounded hitting .350 again and put up 58 WAR for his career, but there were many moments he looked as bad if not worse than Vladimir jr. But they always said the son of a bitch would hit and he did. I think it will be the same for VGJ but he needs 150 games. He hasn't put up his 1.250 OPS months yet, but he will put up a couple in 2021. Another take I can live with... To be sure I am cherry picking. Somewhere else I suspect I rage posted that Vlad was the greatest failure in the history of failures.

Lots looks ridiculous in hindsight for sure but if he didn't lose the weight it's entirely possible he stays the same player he was the last couple of years. I think everyone's thrilled that Vlad looks like the superstar that he should be.
