Almost, almost, almost....yet Mr. Montoyo got done by making the right decisions each time. Dude is playing 4D chess out there and you can't see it because you're playing checkers.

Kirk deserves more PAs regardless of his hot streak.

Kirk has proven hitting talent which is reflected in his professional stats, scouting tools, and preseason projections. All of this information was available prior to a handful of April appearances, where Tapia and his .050 ISO was consistently given more PAs.

Obviously the front office has a very different valuation method for Kirk and Tapia, but quite frankly they're wrong.

I don't think Tapia's higher number of plate appearances than Kirk's are that relevant in this conversation. Tapia has played so much largely due to there being a lack of better backup outfielders available on the roster. With Springer getting a lot of DH time, Gurriel missing time with recurring hamstring issues, and Teo missing an extended period, and finally Biggio being ineffective at the plate and missing time due to COVID that leaves a pile of outfield time needing to be filled. Kirk isn't exactly a great candidate to play outfield so those at bats aren't going to available.

It would be very hard to argue that outside of the last few weeks that Kirk should have been receiving DH time ahead of Springer, and the team is obviously going to be careful of overplaying Kirk due to his past hip injury history and the physical rigors of playing the catcher position.

I think I'm jumping off the fire Charlie bandwagon and am firmly back on the extend Charlie train. The dude just knows what levers to pull and when. 7 wins in a row and it feels like we might never lose again.

Is it just a Toronto thing this Flip-Flopping.Ithought I was on the Maple Leaf form for a minute there.:)

Kirk is 5'4'' and 310 pounds and he catches. I think some off days are probably a good idea for him.

Wrong. Play during games is the only exercise he gets.

Lol that's a good point. Got to be a happy medium between playing him enough so he doesn't balloon over 300 pounds too much but also giving him enough rest so he can be effective/healthy.

LIKE THIS POST IF YOU THINK MR. MONTOYO SHOULD BE EXTENDED FOR EACH GAME WE WIN DURING THIS WIN STREAK.

EACH WIN = 1 YEAR ADDED TO THE EXTENSION

Really guys? We can't give the guy ANY support at all even after an 8 game winning streak and his family has been under attack?

Hitting seems to be coming around. Job of the manager is to hire the right hitting and pitching coach and make sure the players listen to them. Also don't give terrible players 700 plate appearances.

Tapia - probably won't get 700 PAs.

Hitting - close to top 5 except for the runners in scoring position thing.

Tapia - maybe he deserves 700 at bats? He's like a 110 EV guy, started to get some launch. Some of those doubles might end up in the seats soon and needs the opportunity to work this all out and deliver on his 110 mph EV.

So probably Tapia doesn't yet deserve 700 PAs but also should get some to try and learn to launch at 25 degrees and 110 mph... he's close.

Kirk? He's the next Edgar Martinez hitting wise and the next Russel Martin on defense... over 150 games he's 11 WAR for sure... so why only on pace for 120 games and 450 PAs??

As Terminator mentioned he's 5'4" 300 pounds... needs a break now in then. Don't you read the threads?

Charlie is doing a great job when all the different complicated factors are considered.

Thank you! Finally someone with some damn sense

The bongos are clearly a device to keep everyone loose in the clubhouse. In the middle of our recent 12 game losing streak Charlie kept slapping those suckers each and every night. It made me furious at the time and I sent several death threats to his wife and children which I now regret. But the bongos clearly had a calming effect on the team and we’ve been able to rattle off 10 wins in a row. The Yankees better watch out!

So it was YOU! I'm sending Charlie an SOS on my bongo's. I hope he can hear it.

I admit I don't know the detailed physical status of Kirk, but this Tapia thing isn't just about resting Springer, it's something else. Kirk has also been benched on multiple occasions for guys like Collins, not just resting the starters. He was also benched quite a bit last year as well, including getting pinch hit for by Danny Valera.

I get that he's a big fat guy, but if a 23 year old kid can't DH on back to back days that's borderline disabled. Benjie Molina played catcher into his late 30s.

Tapia DHing against a LHP was the clearest sign I could find that they're intentionally finding him ABs. All the guys they were supposedly resting ended up playing half the game anyways.

The front office gets tunnel vision on profiles that they like (Morales, Grichuk, Tapia). I'm sure the FO will pat themselves on the back when Tapia reaches his .690 OPS ceiling but that still really sucks.

Apparently Jansen, Teo, and Vlad were all experiencing minor nagging things they wanted them all to be off to male sure it didn't turn into something more. Vladdy pinch hit for the DH, got an intentional walk so basically didn't play. Teo did play a couple innings. Jansen apparently wasn't availabvle at all. In that case the choice was Tapia or Zimmer playing. My issue with that is if Tapia's playing he should be in the field. Gurriel could have DH'd instead. Had they done that them maybe they don't need to give Gurriel a full day off yesterday on a day where Springer is also out with an illness.

They seem to get locked into their scheduled DH and off days. Something came up that forced Tapia into the lineup. Rather than adjusting Gurriel's scheduled off day to DH day and make it a couple days earlier they just DH'd Tapia, then Springer got sick and was also out on Gurriel's scheduled off day and we ended up with 2 gross lineups instead of 1. Luckily we won both games anyway so it didn't end up mattering but a little more flexibility can improve the lineup during they schedule DH and off days while getting them in there anyway.

Is that a Charlie thing or a management thing? I have no idea. I suspect management has their hands on getting these guys off days. Does Charlie have the ability to be flexible with when they happen?

They said in the pre game today that Chapman's scheduled off day was later but they moved it up to today because of the HBP yesterday. So at least there's some flexibility there I guess.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with this team but Chuckles has got to go. Losing a series to the last-placed Twins is unacceptable. Heads need to roll.

Please hold this thought until the 9th inning is over.

Yeah of the AL Central which equals last in the AL East. They play AAA baseball in that division.

Didn't see much of the game. Heard a bit of the post game and scanned some of the comments on this board and yes it may be time to fire Chuckles

2 dropped pop-ups because Vlad and Teo were not wearing sun glasses? Gaussman tipping pitches?

Seems like things are getting out of control.
