107. Nick Frasso

Loyola Marymount, RHP

Ht: 6-5 | Wt: 190 | B-T: R-R

Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted

Age At Draft: 21.7

Frasso impressed with four scoreless innings in his lone start for USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team last summer. He entered this spring considered a potential first-round pick, but he failed to get through five innings in either of his first two starts before being shut down with forearm tightness. Frasso is one of the most athletic pitchers in the 2020 draft class. He was a high school basketball standout capable of throwing down emphatic dunks, and he still has a basketball build at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds with room to fill out. Frasso still has a relatively fresh arm due to his two-sport background. His 92-95 mph fastball plays up with both a high spin rate and plus extension, and his high-spin slider gives him a second potential plus offering, although it is inconsistent. His changeup is rudimentary but flashes average potential. Frasso locates his fastball to both sides of the plate and fills up the strike zone. He projects as a plus strike thrower overall. Frasso checks a lot of analytical boxes with his spin rates and extension, while traditional scouts love his athleticism and projection. He is in second-to-third-round consideration on talent, but concerns about the health of his arm may drop him lower.

Future rotation arm in 2024-2025, you guys heard it here first.

One other thing about Martin: Its not worth it to him to re-enter the draft if you think you can get an extra 1M next year when you as talented as he is. He's a guy when he's a FA is going to be worth 20+M per year and being a year older when he becomes a FA is just going to decrease his future earnings. Boras knows that as well. Also he could end up in a s***** Org. next year. Toronto is a great situation to go into with being one of the top 10 teams in player development and with lots of talent coming throug the system.

He's not.

Amazing draft by the Jays if they can someone get everyone signed.

Given how risk averse this front office is, I doubt they would draft someone without some level of assurance. I'm not even sure if this regime has missed on signing any draftees within the first 10 round since they joined?

Fairly certain they'll sign everyone. Martin for ~$7M, fit the rest in after that.

Situation wise has never mattered to Boras it is principal and value. Paxton it was over $200k.

With that said this is positive as it probably means they have his number...even it means they go into the tax penalty. Or even better scenario is that they guarantee him a call up and we as fans win as well

I love athletic pitchers. Plenty of room for that body fo fill out as well. It sucks this draft is only 5 rounds but the haul we got makes me excited all things considered. Edited by Jonn

Carter Stewart is pitching in Japan. Not sure I want to play a game of chicken with Boras.

They must be pretty confident in what Martin is going to sign for cause I don't see any significant underslot deals even if they punt their final pick.

To be honest, I doubt they contemplated sign-ability with Martin. They admitted they were surprised. The amount of time it took to get the pick in verified that. However, when he is there for you, you take him and worry about that later... I really think that is what happened.

Maybe they aren't expecting to sign everyone. Give Martin $7M+, and negotiate tough with the other draftees. If one drops, so be it.

Still can't see him saying no to a near $7M bonus and a fast track to the majors. I think the only reason the deal doesn't happen is if the medicals come out wrong on his arm.

We'll see what happens, but I'm not stressing his signability.

Since when do Blue Jays fans have the same low confidence as Raptors fans. You guys are giving yourself anxiety for no reason. They are signing Martin. You don’t let that caliber of prospect fall into your lap only to let him go. Boras might drag it out because hes a prick but its getting done. Blue Jays will do what it takes to secure that talent. Not a single doubt in my mind.

I agree... I think we will sign him.. As mentioned, it might go down to the wire, not going be like Max Meyer ;)

What do you guys think for our last pick? Pitcher or position player?

We haven't got our annual Catcher yet.

If you tuck in rounds 2 and 3 then Boras eats you up. This was a good complimentary approach.
