Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 hahah Kiley has no idea who Evan Carter is. That's hilarious. lol
Ray Verified Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 How come? Don't think he'll have consistent enough command to stick as a starter.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Anyone else having issues with the board? Might just be mods but every time i try to edit a post it deletes it. It does that (and has for a while) for me on my Pixel phone, but not my iPhone, laptops or pc.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Good Review here on Van Eyke. Jays might have seen something many scouts have not? https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2019/9/16/20868070/2020-mlb-draft-2020-mariners-rhp-cj-van-eyk-college-prospect
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Don't think he'll have consistent enough command to stick as a starter. I see, so he has command issues, not that big a deal when he has a front of the rotation arm at such a young age.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I would've preferred a college arm with a little more upside like Wilcox, Cole Henry, or Ginn, but Van Eyke is a pretty good pick. He was getting some good reports to start the season. Even better if we can get him underslot and save $$$ for Martin. Hoping we got with an upside prep player for number 3.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) High spin-rate fastball with plus curveball. Third pitch is changeup, fourth pitch slider. Edited June 11, 2020 by BlueRocky

I don't think the Jays could afford those guys in their budget, saving money would be optimal.

I think out of the underslot options at 42, this guy has one of the higher upsides. I’m thinking he signs @ 1.2-1.5 M which would save 300-500k for Martin. Earlier this season, Baseball America had CJ Van Eyk mocked around late-teens to mid-20s. He’s a first round talent. And good pitch metrics for the analysts.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Miami has went all arms, but I believe they've drafted well. Cabrera's another guy I wouldn't have minded.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Gdamn, he really does look like Bret Gardner.... Spitting image at the plate...
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 At 77 the Toronto Blue Jays select BLAAAAAAAAze Jordan!
Vdubfan Verified Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 When can teams begin signing UDFAs again? Is it right after the draft, or tomorrow?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Holy f*** the Giants' latest draft pick just got a Ryan Goins comp. Imagine being a fan and hearing that your 68th pick in the draft has Ryan Goins potential.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Houston's first pick coming up, lol.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Alex Santos II? The f***. That should be a Jr. label.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 David Calabrese is still on the board isn't he?? Keith Law had him ranked 19th overall. Might be a chance for some CanCon. Just like last years 3rd round selection Brown
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Soooo, Cole Wilcox and company must be asking for big dough.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Is Casey Martin going to be an over slot pick or something?

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 BA draft chat: Mike (NYC): Given the shortened Draft, do you expect a pitcher like CJ Van Eyk to go in the earlier rounds? I would guess under normal circumstances he is not a R1-R3 talent? Carlos Collazo: I would expect Van Eyk in that range regardless of the circumstances. We've consistently had him as a top 50 player in this class. He's good.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 O's have yet to pick someone who is going to be overslot. Maybe they really are looking to not spend as much this year in the draft. lol
