Yeah it’s a really steep price. Wouldn’t argue with someone that thought it was too much.

But aces can be 30ish and still command long deals at $30m+/yr

Bauer is rare bird not looking for 7/210+. Hopefully makes it more realistic play for Jays

Trade for Snell though and they should be able to still afford elite bat

High priced pitchers, yuck.

Lower risk way to field a winning team is a high end offense and a rotation of average'ish pitchers.

FWIW, recent WS Champs like Nats Dodgers and Astros all relied on some high cost ace starters to win.

If you want to give up a significant sum for a really good pitcher, I’d rather it be out of division and preferably league.

The Rockies are a dumpster fire right now and are desperate to shed patrol. They are also one of the teams that place a high emphasis on catching. They are looking to shed payroll in one way or another, and the only contract they have they can unload is German Marquez.

Sign Realmuto

Jansen, Kloffenstein, Hiraldo, plus throw in for German Marquez.

Proposal in article on mlb.com

“Blue Jays get: LHP Blake Snell, OF Manuel Margot

Rays get: SS Jordan Groshans (MLB’s No. 70 prospect), C Danny Jansen, RHP Alek Manoah (Blue Jays’ No. 5 prospect)”

Steep price but likely what it’d take to do it

Probably too steep to be worth it for us, but there's a TON of value in getting 3 years of Snell. Maybe if they gave us Kiermaier instead of Margot it would help a little.

I'm not biting at that price. May just be me, but I've never thought Snell was likely to repeat his 2018 season.

Except he basically has repeated it, just not in ERA.

Man by this time last year the top 4 free agents were signed, and 7 of the top 10. This year 3 of the top 30 are signed and 2 of those were guys who accepted the QO and McCann was the first in the top 30 to sign. This off season needs to pick up already.

It might be Covid related or it might be free agents really not wanting to come to Toronto at a non-inflated price. Like please, anyone else just bid close to what the Jays are offering lol.

EXCLUSIVE: For the past 105 years, the team was called the Indians. That will be no more as Cleveland has decided to change its name. Announcement from team could come as early as this week. w/@DavidWaldstein

Anyone see what they did to Saved by the Bell? Nothing is safe anymore

What did they do? I caught the first 2 episodes and it wasn't bad at all for nostalgic purposes lol.

Really not interested in knee jerk opinions about the Cleveland name change. The team is doing it after years of deliberation, everybody has their thoughts about racism and team names... I don't see how anything bemoaning the change typed onto this message board ends up being positive so I'll be liberally deleting any posts complaining about it

Stifling interesting baseball conversations is always a good way to improve a message board. We need less of that here.

My vote for the new name would be the Cleveland Spiders if that is considered an acceptable statement.

Or trade less to get Darvish or Gray

Yup, even better. I would prefer both of them.

Gray isn't particularly appealing. He had a really bad 2020 season and only has 1 year of control remaining.

Gray has 3 years of control left and he put up a 3.05 FIP in 2020.

Noice. Now don't blow it by picking something other than "Spiders".

There are two pitchers with the last name Gray, so one of them is going to have to change it to avoid confusion. Sonny Fuchsia has a nice ring to it.

I was thinking of Jon Gray for some reason instead of the obviously more appealing Sonny Gray. Although I suspect Sonny Gray's acquisition cost would likely be super expensive in terms of prospect capital given the remaining years of control and super reasonable contract.

Dec. 14: While many expect the Yankees to re-sign LeMahieu, there was still a sizable gulf between the two sides in contract talks as of Saturday night, according to a report from Brendan Kuty of NJ.com.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported Saturday on MLB Network that LeMahieu is seeking $100 million over five years, while the Yankees would prefer a four-year deal around $75 million.

However, Kuty’s source said the chasm between LeMahieu and the Yankees is even more than the $25 million Nightengale mentioned. MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal reported the same Monday morning, and adds that the gap is wide enough that LeMahieu will start shopping himself to other teams.

The Red Sox announced they’ve signed outfielder Hunter Renfroe to a one-year contract (via Chris Cotillo of MassLive). He’ll be guaranteed a base salary of $3.1MM with an additional $600K available in incentives, reports Alex Speier of the Boston Globe

Is anyone else surprised every time they look at his FG page that Renfroe is actually a pretty good defender? I always perceive him as being Mark Trumbo.

I'm surprised they didn't claim him earlier if they were interested. His arbitration projection was right in that range.

He basically was. He was a bad to average defender his entire career before suddenly putting up an elite defensive season in 2019, and he wasn't even a good defender again in the shortened 2020 (SSS caveat obviously). Perhaps the biggest defensive season outlier in recent history?
