Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Toronto should have traded Zeuch for David Dahl!!! why the f*** did that not happen This.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 My guess is he ends up getting something similar to Donaldson's deal last winter (4/92), maybe a little less. I doubt anyone is giving him 5 years. 4 / 80 seems plausible
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 What does everyone think about the lawsuit that MLB is filing against the insurance companies? They're claiming that the virus causes physical damage to the property. Sounds bogus to me.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Zach Wheeler would be an awesome pickup, how desperate are the Phillies to shed salary?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Wonder what it would take to get Sonny Gray. He makes $10m in 2021 and $10m in 2022 + a $12m team option for 2023. That's nothing.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Zach Wheeler would be an awesome pickup, how desperate are the Phillies to shed salary? Full pillage? Trade a catcher plus a lower level pitching prospect plus a negative contract like Roark for Wheeler Sign Realmuto
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Full pillage? Trade a catcher plus a lower level pitching prospect plus a negative contract like Roark for Wheeler Sign Realmuto Wheeler/Ryu/Pearson would be a crazy good top 3 members for the rotation.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 For what it's worth... Haha... new league efficiency, owners trolling these guys and their sources.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Haha... new league efficiency, owners trolling these guys and their sources. There was a local New York media person who straight out said that he heard directly from Bauer's agent that they are in talks with the Yankees. She called the guy out (of course everyone online took it wrong that they weren't talking to the Yankees...she was just calling him out for hearing it directly from her.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 According to Trollosi, Ha-Seong Kim has formally been posted. Curious to see what his market is.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, MLB instructed clubs in a memo last week "to proceed under the assumption" that the designated hitter will not be used in the National League next year. This nugget was revealed as part of Rosenthal's notes column on Monday. It came within the greater context of a question of roster size and how it might be impacted by the Rule 5 Draft. MLB implemented the DH in the NL this year due to COVID-19, an effort aimed at reducing the workload on starting pitchers. The uncertainty over the situation has cast a large shadow over the early part of the offseason, as a number of free agents could see their markets slashed in half. Nelson Cruz stands out the most, but Marcell Ozuna could also factor in here. Similarly, a team like the Mets could alter their offseason plans with both Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith in-house. There's always the chance something is negotiated which keeps the DH in the NL -- the players certainly wouldn't mind that -- but the owners would have to get something in return, with expanded playoffs one obvious possibility. f***ing Manfred can't get anything right.

I don't really care what they do as long as extra innings go back to normal and stay that way. The DH will come eventually if we are patient.

It's absurd that a) we're approaching mid-December and NL teams don't know if they'll have a DH next season, and that it sounds increasingly unlikely that they will have a DH.

Has to be just a money thing, the cost of having a DH in the lineup. The 'purist' argument is BS.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 What are the Reds doing? Getting something for a player that they probably would have non-tendered by the looks of it. They must be in quite a financial crunch.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 The Reds are apparently looking to move Gray as well, who has a great contract, so it’s definitely a money issue, although with Cincy you can’t discount insanity.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Sonny Gray is the kind of guy you move Lourdes for. Gurriel’s contract makes him such a valuable trade piece and I don’t trust that he’s a ~130 wRC+ bat in LF.

I'm actually bullish on Gurriel being a 120 wRC+ player, but him in a package for Gray, preferably followed by a Springer signing, would be great. The Jays would have to add stuff to the trade, but it's the Reds, so logic doesn't necessarily have to apply.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Interesting stat: Danny Jansen had a higher expected wOBA (.339) last year than Gurriel did (.331). In fact Jansen was 3rd on the team behind Teoscar and Rowdy.

I guess the Reds don't really need outfielders as they have like six on their roster but point being is that Gurriel's contract makes him a valuable chip that should be cashed in also on someone with control. If you can move a corner OF to shore up other areas of need then pull the trigger. Every year there are a bunch of guys available on short contracts to plug into LF. This year there are guys like Schwarber, Rosario, Pederson, Grossman or even Brantley who could all be had relatively cheap or short term.
