Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Too bad for us.. I would have jumped on that like a fat kid attacking cake. As did the Padres.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Cubs are cutting Schwarber? Rumoured to, IDK he's still cheap.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Cubs are cutting Schwarber? Heyman and MLBTR have speculated that they might. He's like a Ross Atkins dream player (hard hit/EV, barrels, bad defense).
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Schwarber is a 120 wRC+ LF DH. Jays already got a cheaper one of those that could very well put up better numbers.

No one said anything about the Jays, Cubs non tendering a bat like that makes no sense. He's cheap, tender the contract and trade him if need be. Oops, glory mentioned Atkins, my bad.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Cubs are cutting Schwarber? If Eddie Rosario has no value then Schwarber probably has even less. It's not surprising in light of the former being cut.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I wasn't suggesting the Jays sign Schwarber and I don't think they will. I was just taking a lighthearted dig at Atkins' love of that type of player. Jays need help up the middle. He's not it, obviously. He seems like a fit for the Indians who need OF's.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Schwarber's bat > Rosario, imo. I think you could be right, but Rosario has a better wRC+ over the last 4 years, including a 20 point margin last year. He's also a better baserunner and fielder.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) I think you could be right, but Rosario has a better wRC+ over the last 4 years, including a 20 point margin last year. He's also a better baserunner and fielder. Last years shortened season, really? Okay, last 3 seasons Schwarber has a higher wRC+, 2 years younger and both stink in the OF. Schwarber also projects far better. Schwarber > Rosario. Edited December 2, 2020 by Spanky99
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Why has the MLB not made a decision on the National league DH? It's ridiculous.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Adam Duvall non-tendered by the Braves. Their OF depth beyond Acuna kind of tails off. I know they have Pache and Waters waiting in the wings, but it's a bit much to expect them to produce in a season where they'll likely have World Series aspirations.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Why has the MLB not made a decision on the National league DH? It's ridiculous. I know. And how many players allowed on the major league roster? How do NL GMs know what they need? Or what to do with guys who can hit but questionable defense Schwarber is a good example. Great DH option for 2021 if they knew they could use him that way as a cushion

He probably gets an offer if there is DH in the NL.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Can we get some signings going now! Not only did almost every free agent in the NBA sign within 3 days of free agency opening, but now John Wall has been traded for Russell Westbrook. We could go for just a smidge of the NBA off season excitement.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 David Dahl got non-tendered. I've always had a bit of a Dahl crush
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 I've always had a bit of a Dahl crush You would be in a love triangle with the IL
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Some of these non-tenders are insane.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Some of these non-tenders are insane. This should point to a real opportunity for the Jays on the free agent market. If only the Mets hadn't been sold, we would have had an even bigger opportunity.

Yeah Mets added a legit buyer to the market But there are still very few teams willing to add 10s of millions in payroll and the Jays are one of them
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Archie Bradley non-tender is weird.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Schwarber was indeed non-tendered. He probably gets an offer if there is DH in the NL. Probably? David Dahl got non-tendered. Guy's only 26 and had 2 seasons of a 110 wRC+, Rockies are dumb. A healthy Dahl is a sweet get for someone, me thinks.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Archie Bradley non-tender is weird. Reds traded two of their top 20 prospects for Bradley and Goodwin just to dump both this off season

Not only did almost every free agent in the NBA sign within 3 days of free agency opening, but now John Wall has been traded for Russell Westbrook. We could go for just a smidge of the NBA off season excitement. There are obviously more reasons than this (salary cap vs. non salary cap leagues, MLB suffered more losses due to Covid, etc), but I don't see the point in having the non tender date, 40 man roster cut off, and Rule 5 draft happen around a month (or more) into the off season. If all of this s*** was done by the first week of the off season, then we might have seen at least some activity by now. Not sure why everything needs to be so spread out. Even pre Covid this was an issue with MLB off seasons. Last winter was a bit of an aberration since there was a lot of money thrown around.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Matt Wisler now too. Just saw that, I wouldn't mind him or Bradley in our pen on the cheap. Some of these teams are broke AF.
