Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Have you ever played amateur ball or higher levels?? I have not...and it doesn't matter. I get the feeling you're going to give me some "unwritten code" speech. Unwritten rules aren't written because they're retarded. If they were valid, they'd be written.

I mean, by all accounts he IS a dick, but y'know.

Nothing wrong with a little greasy killer instinct if it means a win.

You can go ahead and break that rule, but you'll become very disliked around the league and with many fans (which is exactly what happened with Aroid, he became something of a pariah). Also when you lie about it afterwards it speaks toward your character. Here's another stunt he pulled: LOL.... he even tries to plead his case he should be called safe

Even little league nowadays coaches don’t want players yelling “drop it drop it” from the bench or on the field. I haven’t seen it in competitive travel ball so you’d imagine turning pro this wouldn’t change

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 I wonder if this is the first time two pitchers with the same last name have given up 6+ runs each pitching on the same day?

They still have lots of games against the Twins, Whitesox, and Brewers. Also a good amount vs the Royals though... Jays still have 10 against the Yanks which sucks. They’re gonna have to beat up on the Redsox and Orioles for the rest of the season if they want a shot at a playoff spot.

After this weekend, 14 of the Jays last 20 games are against the Yankees and Phillies. I thought the 8th spot was in the bag but if the f’n Tigers decide to be a .500 team all of a sudden, then that becomes a lot more questionable. Anything can happen in a small sample size. I guess this is the “fun” part of the 60 game schedule.

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 How are you gonna prove it was intentional though?? Chapman will just claim the ball got away from him First, define the standard of proof. Consider in life that it is very hard to know ANYTHING with 100% certainty. You may be 99.9999% sure you are a man, but you in 10 years might not be so sure. You don't need to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. It's not a murder trial. You don't need Chapman's text to his teammates saying "I'm gonna bean Brousseau tonight". Proof on the balance of probabilities should be all that is required. Based on everything we know, is it more likely than not that it was intentional? It seems like it to me.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 This unwritten rule of throwing at batters to self police the game of baseball needs to end. It's f***ing nonsense. We don't need it, just like we never needed the take out slide. If you don't like what a team is doing and feel the need to physically attack them - then man the f*** up and fight them at first base or something. Throwing baseballs at people is a massive pussy move.

It seems like it to me If the league decides to suspend him, Chapman would argue why didnt the ump toss me from the game if he felt it was intentional. You are right though, you can't prove it, you can only have strong suspicions. There are however grey areas, a smart pitcher wont throw more than one ball inside. They'll make it look like an accident

They'll make it look like an accident The ump absolutely should have tossed Chapman. MLB has been f***ing up discipline on these problems forever. The warning system they use is reeeeeeee-stupid. If an ump thinks it was probably intentional, toss the player. I don't see the logic in allowing one guy to do it on purpose, then warning everybody. These things carry over across seasons.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Speaking of Rays, I was thinking Adames was starting to break out, been thinking of him as buy low in fantasy for awhile..but in checking now, seems underlying numbers don’t support it
