Speaking of Rays, how amazing is it they play this well given their payroll??!

4th last this year, and dead last in 2019: http://www.stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm

Add the A's to your list also....pretty incredible. I can't help but root for those teams in the playoffs. I'd love to see the A's and Billy Beane finally win a title with one of his budget teams.

Speaking of Rays, I was thinking Adames was starting to break out, been thinking of him as buy low in fantasy for awhile..but in checking now, seems underlying numbers don’t support it

How dare you besmirch Willy's good name on his birthday!

This unwritten rule of throwing at batters to self police the game of baseball needs to end. It's f***ing nonsense. We don't need it, just like we never needed the take out slide.

If you don't like what a team is doing and feel the need to physically attack them - then man the f*** up and fight them at first base or something. Throwing baseballs at people is a massive pussy move.

I'm no fan of throwing at people intentionally, but if you ARE going to do it, a breaking ball in the ribs AT MOST. 101 MPH fastball at the head is basically attempted murder.

Yup. That was an idiotic move and he should be suspended. You should NEVER throw at the head.

Guys it’s pretty easy to aim ribs and miss high. Chapman has never had pinpoint command, either.

Well he 'missed' up an in 3 times during that outing - the last one almost killed Brosseau. Let's remember that Chapman is a POS who choked and shot a gun at his girlfriend. Logical decisions like hitting someone in a 'safe' location is probably may not be in his repertoire.

I mean if you're unhappy with what the other team did and want to use violence - walk over and fight someone. Pussy's throw balls at people.

He shot a gun at a wall in his garage after getting in a fight with his girlfriend. Still not sound decision making, but not quite attempted murder.

Is choking someone attempted murder?

My bad re: gun shots - I seem to recall he shot them in her general direction (like around her or something - not with the intent of killing her, but to scare her) - but I'm wrong. Apparently after he choked her and threw her against the wall, she ran and hide in the bushes to call the police while he went to his car, punched out the window and got his gun....then locked himself in a garage before shooting at the block wall (1 shot through the window though).

I'm going to say decision making isn't his strong point.

They still have lots of games against the Twins, Whitesox, and Brewers. Also a good amount vs the Royals though...

Jays still have 10 against the Yanks which sucks. They’re gonna have to beat up on the Redsox and Orioles for the rest of the season if they want a shot at a playoff spot.

You say that like the Brewers and White Sox are good

I don't think it's ever okay to intentionally hit someone with a 101 MPH fastball, even if you think it's fine to hit someone to "send a message" you don't do it with your top velocity. That's just reckless and even if you don't literally kill someone, you could easily break bones at that speed.

That isn't a message, that's assault.

White Sox have the 3rd best record in the AL with the 2nd best run differential.

The White Sox are 13-2 +50 against the Royals, Tigers and Pirates. They are doing well against the terrible teams. An easier statement would be "The Tigers just aren't talented enough who need to beat up on the Royals to have any shot"

I was mainly trying to point out that the Tigers have a lot of games against better teams. I agree with your assessment of them.

The Tigers must be beating up on someone else then to be .500 and in the race against us.

Don't good teams beat up on s***** teams?

So the Giants have one of the best offenses in the league so far. I'm pretty sure they would have been a consensus bottom-5 offense going into the season. Look at these wRC+ numbers:

Slater 198

Belt 182

Yastrzemski 163

Solano 141

Dickerson 132

Flores 124

Longoria 123

Crawford 119

All of these guys are at least 20% above pre-season projections.

Is that Brandon Belt? Must feel nice since you've owned him for so long in the DDL. Finally playing up to his potential.

That's the unfortunate/unfair part of this region based schedule. The Central is so mediocre in both leagues that teams like the Tigers, White Sox, etc, can look good over a 60 game stretch (although I think the White Sox are legit, or very close to it, even in a normal schedule). The Jays have the AL East, which has the O's and Red Sox, but everyone else is either really good or not a pushover.

If the Jays miss the playoffs after the trade deadline they had, it wouldn't be the end of the world, but man would that be a huge disappointment. Just to see a team like the f'n Tigers sneak in. Hopefully, the Jays can hold their head above water in the 10 games against the Yankees.

1 vs MIA

5 vs BOS

10 vs NYY

4 vs PHI

3 vs BAL

3 vs NYM

If they go 13-13 the rest of the way they finish 31-29. That's probably good enough, but not a lock anymore due to the Tigers suddenly winning.

MLB gave Joe Kelly eight games which he appealed down to five.

So much for precedent.
