Where’s the clip of benches clearing? I wanna see

It was about as tame as benches clearing could possibly be.

Yeah it was like they were obligated to do it, but nobody really cared.

I'm not even 100% sure Joe Kelly was doing any of it on purpose. His command was just s***. I think he was frustrated in himself and then at the Houston players for the looks like he was doing it on purpose so he got worked up.

Covid be damned. Nick markakis watches opening weekend with the wife on his couch and says what am I doing here. He has changed his mind and is coming back to play!

If Markakis plays until he is 40 he has an outside shot at 3000 hits. Maybe he just realized that and went oh s***! my legacy!

Soto can't play until August 4th due to local DC regs. Unequal regs across the US impacting on the season. Just another of the many inequities this year.

Juan Soto not being able to play for a week due to DC regulations will probably get more airtime on MLB network, ESPN, etc. than the Blue Jays not being able to play at all in their own country.

Not that I care.

It doesn't make a bit of sense. I shared the new DC regulations about anyone on non essential business arriving from among other states, Florida. Effective July 27th. The Blue Jays just arrived from St. Pete and I was told since MLB has an exemption, the rules do not apply to them. Yet now a local rule applies to baseball? WTF?

Joe Kelly suspended 8 games. Pretty crazy in a 60-game season.

Deserved but wow.

If its near the hip does he get suspended you think?

Little extreme. Was expecting 4 or 5 at the most.

As a general rule of thumb I think that throwing at someones head should be harshly punished like this. So I don't hate it in that sense. But this has never been done before. Manfred trying to protect his boys. Not to mention Roberts got a game too lol.

It's going to get taken down with an appeal anyway. Doubt 8 games holds.

Nationals players got an exception though. If they didn’t get the exception the Nationals were planning to play somewhere else this season. Its possible they didn’t want to just throw him in the lineup after 5 or so days in a hotel. Hes been in quarantine since his “positive test”.

Fantrax note:

Soto was cleared by MLB Wednesday but due to local health standards, he won't be able to make his season debut until Aug. 4 against the Mets, at the earliest, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Analysis

Washington, D.C. requires anyone who was exposed to COVID-19 to quarantine for 14 days, so he won't be able to play in either of these next two games against the Blue Jays. This weekend's series against the Marlins has been postponed, so that leaves next week's series against the Mets as his first opportunity to get back in the lineup. Michael Taylor, Emilio Bonifacio and Andrew Stevenson will continue to get starts in his place in the meantime.

If this is true the Nationals must be mega pissed. They were considering not playing in Washington this season for this reason alone. If the Nats were actually on the road right now Soto is in the lineup tonight. But they are playing road games in their home ballpark which actually awkwardly backfired for them.

Markakis going after 3000 hits kinda feels like Moyer chasing 300 wins. It just seems wrong.

Joe Kelly is a ****. Wasn't he on the 2018 Red Sox that were also punished for cheating? Will he throw at the batters from that team too?

Mike Yastrzemski looks like a pretty legit hitter. Nice player the Giants got for free, but more importantly, LOL Orioles.

I came in here to post that. He looks great in the PAs I've seen so far.

That walkoff was a moonshot, don't see many lefties in San Francisco make it look that easy to hit the water.
