There was surely a lot more to this than what is contained in the report, but MLB didn't find it or they didn't act on it.

Todd Verified Member Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 So lets get this straight. Some moron in New York is filing a law suit again the new york mets over money which could involve the blue jays. Because he has not gotten his money back. Isn't that the last thing people should be weird about like really. New York is getting they asses kicked but lets try and make money on it. They should be ashamed of them self's.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Well said, Todd. Stay safe buddy.

It was actually a delayed announcement by MLB because the investigation into the Red Sox, and into Cora, was still ongoing at the time they announced the Astros' punishment. But with two scandals in as many seasons, there's no way the front office and manager didn't know what Watkins was up to, and yet the top brass walk away scot-free... way to send a message, Rob! And putting it out the day before the NFL draft was slick.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 This is significant news for the 2021 MLB draft class. A significant chunk of data and scouting just disappeared and in some cases we’ll never see some college hitters play with wood and hit against higher conference arms for next year’s class.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Even if play resumes with no fans, next year’s free agent crop is f***ed. No team is going to spend money. Lots of QO acceptance most likely, and Mookie’s not getting $400m. Time for the Jays to swoop in and sign Betts since the 2021 payroll figures to be minuscule.

Roger's will be looking for huge payroll cuts. across the board payroll cuts all over mlb. wouldnt be surprised if a scenario plays out where teams have the ability to void current contracts. losing one year of profits can be devastating but worse yet, as 1994 showed us losing a full year of baseball means saying bye bye to certain fans.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 baseball heavily depends on tickets revenue unlike basketball. take that revenue away and no team can have a payroll of even 100 million
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I'm also no one commented on the rumored three divisions. I think a lot of the games will be played at the Roger's center in October. if the season goes late you would want to be in a dome.

That's making the VERY big assumption that even empty stadium games will be permitted in Toronto. I don't think that's a given right now.

I don't think that's a given right now. That would be insane unless the data shows otherwise. Toronto and Ontario have done a great job at containing this not quite at South Korea level but good. South Korea will have a 2 month head start on getting baseball going... if they do it successfully, and Toronto is still tracking on a good path it would be insane not to have baseball. In fact in the long run it would hurt virus control... Lockdowns are a temporary measure. People need to trust that the government can use them responsibly. If there are very few virus cases, but still no baseball the people will revolt and won't listen when a worse virus comes in 2039.

They are saying this one is dangerous for younger people unlike the one from 2020... what do you old dudes think??" Poster who was here in 2020 - "We fought together and defeated the virus and by late June it was getting under control.. we wanted a ball game even without fans, but then they closed baseball for the whole year anyway. DO NOT LISTEN. DO NOT OBEY. ONCE YOU LOCK DOWN THEY WILL NEVER LET YOU OUT." 2039 Blue Jays message board - "Thanks old dude... I'd lock down if I thought I could trusth them, but can't trust the government." (Humanity dies)

I don't think that's a given right now. I believe the tentative plan (based on Nightengale's article) is for spring training to happen in June, and the regular season to begin in the beginning of July. By then I would imagine every state in the USA and Toronto would have opened up, even if it came with heavy restrictions. With that said, if every game is going to have an empty stadium, then realistically the location doesn't even matter. There's no home field advantage with no fans, and teams don't build their rosters around their home stadium (though some will argue the Yankees do), so even if Toronto is still shut down in July, then play the games in their Dunedin complex. Play the games anywhere. As long as there are games and everyone involved is safe, then that's all that matters.

Toronto is one of the worst areas in all of Canada from what I have read. Outside of Quebec, the rest of Ontario and Canada have been quite a bit better. We have 2 active cases in my Northern Ontario district of over 100,000.

Most stadiums look half filled/empty routinely anyway. I mean, no fans is going to suck, but is it really any different than 18,000 fans at Rogers Centre on a random Tuesday night? It’s not like the latter causes a great atmosphere. It’s just background noise until something happens for the most part. Where no fans is going to hurt is the playoffs. That’s when every crowd is crazy loud and can impact a game. Regular season, it will probably take a week to get used to it and it will seem common place. Basketball is a game that will look weird without fans.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2020 Author Posted April 30, 2020 Finally got confirmation that a refund is being processed for MLB tickets. Assume that means teams have been warned that the season is going to be cancelled or at least restricted attendances if they do play any games.

It's one of the worst areas in the nation by any measure and it's poor response has endangered other areas of the country. Baseball should not be played there right now.

If you have 3 million people in a concentrated area, it's pretty hard to maintain social distancing. It's so easy to go by per capita while living in a town of 10 people and reporting no infections because there's like one square kilometer per person.
