wilko Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Jays sign Marc Rzepczynski to a minor league deal with ST invite. Old familiar face Now they just need to get Brett Cecil back!

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 If he was good, he wouldn't need to resort to a minor league deal. Thanks Dick. I'm just pointing out he hasn't been remotely useful in a long time. There was lots of players who sign minor league deals with actual upside. Rzep isn't one of them
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Thanks Dick. I'm just pointing out he hasn't been remotely useful in a long time. There was lots of players who sign minor league deals with actual upside. Rzep isn't one of them Someone needs to pitch in Buffalo. I don't think every signing has to be about upside. His role will be just that - vet w/ experience to log bullpen innings in AAA, possibly on standby in the case of an emergency callup. It's rather inconsequential but someone has to do it.
Beans Verified Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 I like that they're talking about us, how that's really f***ing low on Bichette and Vlad. At least Cavan is getting some shine.

At least Cavan is getting some shine. That would be not great for Vlad imo, considering his pedigree. Low on Bichette too but we will see.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Either I or we missed this one. Might be a decent little under-the-radar signing.
BillyTheKid Verified Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Pannone is trash, why is on the roster? Surely we can do better...
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Pannone is trash, why is on the roster? Surely we can do better... He is up to 94 mph this ST and is a lefty with a pulse.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Pannone is trash, why is on the roster? Surely we can do better... He had an immaculate inning! Potential bro
BillyTheKid Verified Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 He is up to 94 mph this ST and is a lefty with a pulse. Average fastball for a reliever is 93.4 mp4, 94 mph is flat out of this world.
Beans Verified Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Either I or we missed this one. Might be a decent little under-the-radar signing. Depends on how much you trust the Rapsodo data. Personally, I like what @pitchingninja has done and expect a bunch of his guys to break out.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Pannone is trash, why is on the roster? Surely we can do better... As a reliever he was a serviceable lefty, if he's added a few ticks velocity as reported then he may be able to be effective going forward. It's not like the Jays have a lock-down pen at this point, may as well see what all the invitees can do at least as there is nothing to lose by doing so.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Average fastball for a reliever is 93.4 mp4, 94 mph is flat out of this world. What's the average fastball of LH relievers?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 He is up to 94 mph this ST and is a lefty with a pulse. I don't believe that for a minute until I see it in the regular season. I fully expect Pannone to be back at 88-91 when it counts.

I don't know why you'd dismiss it so quickly.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) I mean why be so pessimistic? Driveline and other training programs have produced some incredible results over the past 4-5 years. I don't know why you'd dismiss it so quickly. Because I've heard/seen reports about players in spring training or in the minors, plenty of times, hitting certain velocity numbers...but then when they get to Toronto, it's nowhere to be seen. I'd love for it to be correct, but I've seen exaggerated radar gun readings before. That's what I'm apprehensive about. Hopefully this one is legit cause that would great for us. Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 He's on the weighted ball program. Remember back when Cecil went on the weighted ball program and transformed himself into a stud reliever for a couple of seasons? How sweet would it be to see history repeat itself.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Anyone else get this email today? Just oddly forwarded by my ticket broker BLUE JAYS SHARE ROGERS CENTRE EXTENDED NETTING PLAN The Toronto Blue Jays today announce the plan to extend the protective netting at Rogers Centre, as part of the club’s commitment to improve fan safety while preserving the live baseball experience. The extended netting will be installed before Opening Day (Thursday, March 26). The new protective netting will be extended down the length of the first and third baseline walls, to Sections 113C & 130C, respectively, tapering off to the curve before the foul poles. The height of the extended netting will match what was in place behind home plate during the 2019 season (30 feet), and the colour and knotting will be the same as well. In order to maintain the current netting height without adding support poles, the field facing walls of the dugouts, media bays, and baseline walls have been shifted forward to ensure the net can run flush along a cable around the lower bowl. These modifications will reduce foul ball territory; however, despite the change, Rogers Centre still will have one of the largest foul ball territories in Major League Baseball. Player and fan interaction is one of the most memorable parts of a trip to the ballpark. Additional information about the netting, including how fans will be able to access the field and interact with players, will be communicated prior to Opening Day once the netting is in place. In August of 2019, the Blue Jays committed to extending the protective netting at both TD Ballpark in Dunedin and Rogers Centre for the 2020 Spring Training and regular seasons, respectively. – BLUE JAYS –

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 “You know what happens sometimes when we don’t feel really good at the plate — we hit a lot of groundballs, left and right. Right now, at the plate, every time, I’ve been trying to put the ball in the air. And I have groundballs that happen. They happen in the game. That’s why I wanted to play. Right now, I don’t feel 100 per cent. But I will come out of spring training feeling 100 per cent.” - Vladdy

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Perhaps already mentioned, but apparently we checked in on Collin McHugh. I think he's a great target.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Couple of Blue Jays related questions on the chat last night with Mark Polishuk (I loved the nickname he gave Nasty Nate but I think he is wrong with Nates ETA, Im thinking it will be shortly after we score the extra year.) R. Grichuk 9:45 I hit 35 HRs this year playing CF...change my mind. Mark P 9:46 Wouldn't be a big stretch But I think the Jays would be happier to see bigger gains with the average and OBP than a few more homers Jay 9:39 Toronto needs ______ added to the 26 man roster to actually flirt with a wildcard spot... Mark P 9:40 Mike Trout 9:41 Actual answer: the Jays need at least a couple of their younger guys to immediately play up to their big potential. Right now they're counting on a lot of players they think will be good or are pretty sure will be good, but it's just a question of whether or not they'll be good as early as 2020 BB 9:48 ETA for Nate Pearson in Toronto? Is he the first call up if someone in the rotation gets hurt? Mark P 9:49 The Jays are more likely to call up one of their depth arms (basically all of last year's starters who have been pushed out by the new arrivals) before going to Pearson in the early going. I'd expect The Airport to be in Toronto after the All-Star break, or thereabouts The Airport 10:20 Love it! You the man M! Mark P 10:21 Clarification: Toronto's airport is called Pearson Airport, making it a logical nickname for the Jays' pitching prospect. If you don't think Jays fans will start wearing jerseys with Pearson's number and YYZ as the name, you're nuts
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 I think he's mostly right. By seniority certain guys like Kay, Wag, and Borucki will be the first called up from Buffalo, unless they are hurt or really struggling. These guys are already on the 40 man roster and Pearson isn't. The team will do something this year to minimize Pearson's total workload and I think we might see them put a pitch limit on him in Buffalo for several weeks before setting him loose and then subsequently calling him, if/when needed in Toronto.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 I hate nicknaming him “the Airport”
