It’s a one-year deal, Morosi adds. It’ll be a $4MM guarantee for the Pro Star Management client, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand (on Twitter), who adds that the deal could climb to $4.675MM if Shaw maxes out his available incentives. Specifically, Shaw would receive $175K upon tallying 350 plate appearances, with an additional $125K for every 50 plate appearances accrued thereafter, maxing out at 550 plate appearances. The Brewers non-tendered Shaw earlier this month. It was an eventful couple of weeks on the market for the 29-year-old, who drew some interest from almost half the league.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2019 Author Posted December 22, 2019 I like this. And he’s arb-eligible after the season.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Wonder if this is as a 1B, utility or to replace Vladdy at 3B with Vladdy moving to 1B.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 1 year 4 mill for a guy who had a down year. I like this better then ee I think

Given it's 1Y/4M, I'd guess it's more likely he could replace Drury eventually, but begin as Smoak's replacement. I wonder if this takes us out on Edwin? He would be a bit redundant after Shaw.

If Edwin’s age catches up to him he might be a platoon player anyway, and if Shaw doesn’t rebound he’s not a starter.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Big upside with Shaw if he's able to bounce back.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I like this. And he’s arb-eligible after the season. Oh good, two years of control. I was wondering why they would bother with a 1-year.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Love the potential here. Still under 30 and had big numbers in MIL. Really happy this club decided on a bounce back player vs EE.

If Edwin’s age catches up to him he might be a platoon player anyway, and if Shaw doesn’t rebound he’s not a starter. I agree, Shaw can play a few positions in the INF and may (as some have already said) make Drury redundant. EE can then play spot duty at 1B and mostly DH. It certainly lengthens our lineup, adding EE and Shaw. I think Tellez may be the odd man out. But I think Tellez may still have an option left. Shaw may even provide better defense than Smoak. I am not sure.

I’m hoping this means Drury’s days are numbered - without his defensive value at 3B he’s even more useless.

EE still makes sense to me.

I doubt there is a strongly set plan Yeah, I like the idea of him being a better Drury if he can't prove to bounce back as an everyday player. I think they both can fit. Some overlap is good. If Edwin’s age catches up to him he might be a platoon player anyway, and if Shaw doesn’t rebound he’s not a starter. Yes that's true, could sign Eddy still, use them as a platoon, and shoot Tellez to the moon. Nothing wrong with that. Tellez to AAA, and go year to year at 1st at the MLB level, analyzing Vlad's D metrics at 3rd, until you need to move Vlad there.

Do you mean that because Shaw is left handed he'll be in the lineup every day? Because if so then having EE tie up the DH is even worse. Sorry I might be misunderstanding your point.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 EE could still be possible but I think this probably makes it less likely. But they could option Tellez, dump Drury (I don't think his salary is guaranteed), and sign EE. EE can play 1B and Shaw can move to 3rd or 2nd when needed.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 f***ing beauty signing. He may not bounce back, but this is still an excellent signing.

It's perfect If he doesn't bounce back, hes a reasonably priced stop gap you can let walk after one year If he does bounce back you get to keep him

If this is true, It will mark the second time Shatkins gave EE an offer and then went a different direction.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Yup thumbs up for this move. Can play multiple positions, and is controllable through 2021, and was a 120 wrc+ bat in 2017-18. If he bounces back, that’s really good value. If he doesn’t, not a huge risk taken. I’d imagine he slides over to third when Vlad is out of the lineup or at DH. That definitely makes Drury less needed, but he has an option left so maybe they’ll use it.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Nice, I'm very okay with this signing. IMO, infield is set. Thanks for the memories EE, but you're superfluous on this team.

Thanks for the memories EE, but you're superfluous on this team. I’d like Espinal (who was protected from the rule 5 draft) to be the back up middle infielder ahead of Urena/Valera. But yeah we have enough infield players now.
