Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 In 2018 he would have been the best player on the Jays by more than 1 WAR over the next guys That's what we're giddy about G-S... could be a lot of regression coming.
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Yeah he was on MLB Network today. He said that half a dozen other teams told him they wanted to sign him. But several wouldn't promise full time at bats. And others (Including Boston he said) were making him wait for an actual contract offer while they worked on other things. Jays offered full playing time and a contract on the table and he grabbed it because he's seen guys "get screwed" the last few years while waiting too long. Also he says he didn't care if he played 1B or 3B as long as he got full time at bats. With the Jays still staying committed to Vladdy playing at 3rd base it's safe to presume that the infield will be set with Bichette at SS, Biggio at 2nd and Shaw at 1st. You've got like the potential this signing got Shaw had put up 2 good back to back season in NL and he still only 29. Sometimes when a team gives up on player it triggers an inner push to extra motivate themselves to excel and prove them wrong. The Blue Jays had quite a bit of success doing these type of signings one has to think of Bautista, Encarnacion and Smoak these guys were down and out nobody wanted to give them a chance they came to Toronto and rebounded their career in positive manner with good worthy seasons. Shaw is no different this has the potential of being the steal signing of the year.

And because he comes in slumping, I am assuming he'd be very open to any advice to hit the ground running in 2020. He's talented, no doubt. This is a guy who has a slight chance to become one of our best hitters. It's really a great deal for the Jays.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Rogers would not take the PR hit for Russell. I mean, they didnt want Osuna to put on a Jays jersey ever again after his incident. Anyways, this is a great signing. Hopefully he bounces back.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 We've had a pretty decent track record of taking corner infielders and helping them put it all together so I'm optimistic about this signing.
KennerKid Verified Member Posted January 12, 2020 Posted January 12, 2020 Personally pretty excited about Shaw. He’s hit well in the past in TOR and he said he sees the ball well at Rogers
