Spanberger going to the Brewers. I mean, giving up crap for a capable MLB starter is a pretty solid return, if not boring as hell. Hopefully the FIP beating is sustainable.

If he is in fact a FIP beater (as he appears to be) he looks pretty damn good to me. His RA-9 WAR is consistently good.

Feels like the Marco Estrada situation all over again. FIP-beating flyball changeup specialist from Milwaukee.

8.5M team option this year, and a 9.5M team option in 2021 with a 500k buyout. I wouldn't give much up for the contract, but it's not a bad addition.

Club options this year for 8.5M and next year for 9.5M with .5M buyouts both years. Not exactly cheap but provides room for surplus and if he sucks we can cut bait after a year. He's starting to get up there a bit in age but this isn't a bad move assuming he didn't cost much.

Yeah, Spanberger is nothing. I don't think anyone would be upset about signing Anderson for 1/8.5 with a team option for 2021. Boring, but solid move.

I.... guess I'll fap to this?

It's the Sears catalog underwear section of acquisitions but something is better than nothing.

Jays gave up nothing. I’m pleasantly surprised. Its a solid move. Nothing to be overly excited about but it’s a nice little move.

I'll reserve judgement on this move until February.

If he's expected to be #4 SP by February, this is a very good move. If he is expected to compete for #1 SP, this is a very bad move. It's all about the FO's mindset. They've never had a problem supplementing the roster with depth. But if they are trying to throw a ton of depth at the roster as an excuse to avoid getting top end talent while getting to a somewhat not Tampa payroll then I will not be pleased. One could easily turn this around and say Milwaukee is freeing up salary space to make a bigger splash in the FA market in a good FA market year. So it could be a win for both teams.

For a move a few days after the World Series and before free agency, it's okay. The FO is not really showing its cards for the off-season here yet.

Hey, the Sears catalog underwear section got me through my prime masterbaking years.

Gave up 2 or less runs in 24 of his 32 appearances last year. Prone to the blowup game which means casuals will hate him.

Yeah. Chase Anderson is a nice piece of he's your 4th or 5th starter.

But we have four of those guys now (him and Shoemaker, Borucki, and Thornton). They should still add two arms that are clearly better than anything currently in the fold.

So the Seung Hwan Oh trade with the Brewers ends up with us getting Anderson, they must like Spanberger, also with us taking on salary obviously.

I disagree. This is a good move regardless. If he's the #1 starter it's still not a bad move as it adds a viable piece to the rotation for basically nothing. It would just mean that the Front Office failed in its quest to add significant pieces to the rotation.

Shatkins is about 'spreading the risk'. Anderson is one piece to what will probably be a few other pieces added to the rotation. Whether those other pieces are significantly better than Anderson is the question.

Not adding a proven 4th or 5th starter because you have a roster of potential 4th or 5th starters seems like it would be bad business.

Yup, need at least a full rotation like that in Buffalo.

So is fielding a rotation of 4th and 5th starters. I have no problem with this trade, but I'll be pretty pissed if the current plan is for Anderson, Borucki, Thornton, and Shoemaker to be in the rotation come April. This move doesn't tell us anything about the plan for the offseason.

Why do you guys think we can win with a rotation of mid level guys. The current WS featured 5 aces if not 6

If we want to win we have to find top of the rotation talent. Are we going to do that giving starts to chase anderson and jake oddrizi or any of the other crap

Nope. No point in this

Seems like a good candidate to be pared with an opener...

Makes sense. For 1st offseason move, this has to be considered good. SP for under 10 mill. Averages 150 IP. Whats not to like.

Chisholm seems to think that the Jays are putting it out there that Anderson is more likely to be a backend rotation piece but he doesn't seem 100 percent certain. I think the payroll is low enough and their seats are warm enough that Shatkins will be bringing in guys better than Anderson for the front end.
