I don't see atkins apologizing, but a wack load of cash should serve as a sufficient apology. It's not going to happen regardless.

His last two years have been pretty average, but I would hope that brings his price down a bit. Also, isn’t Grichuk a capable centrefielder defensively? Would shifting him there and putting Ozuna in RF not improve our OF situation?

 

That Marlins outfield was so good before they tore it down. Yellich has maintained the best output since then. Stanton hurt too much. Ozuna has been up and down.

I know this won't ever happen but the Jays should just get this Vlad at 3B business over with and sign Josh Donaldson to a 4 year deal. Would take us from a .500 team to legit WC contenders.

 

I honestly don't think the Jays FO wants anything to do with JD. I get the feeling he was responsible for a lot of the clubhouse drama we've been hearing about over the past couple seasons.

I think that bridge has long been burned with JD and won't be rebuilt anytime soon... though as it was with George Bell I'm sure we'll likely reconciliate once he retires.

 

Plus I am kind of skeptical on how much longer he will be able to stay effective at third defensively.

I think his bat ages well. He would be an amazing DH, IMO, for many more years.

Yeah, this isn't happening under this FO the handling of his regimen burns deep, neither like each other.

JD isn't going to be paid like a DH though so the last few years you might be looking at a guy that's being paid like $25 million just to swing the bat.

A guy like Castellanos is lower risk, probably lower $$, and considering position on the aging curve, could very well return more value over same timeframe.

Castellanos did improve his defense quite a bit last year, which was his second as an outfielder. I wonder if there's still room for further improvement?

I don't get how it's even close. Ozuna has demonstrated 5 WAR upside and actually has the best single offensive season of the two. He's worth twice as much as Castellanos so if the money is close it's a no-brainer.

At their (pre signing period) predicted costs of 58/4 for Castellanos and 45/3 for Osuna, the latter should be a pretty easy choice.

After the Ryu and Shun deals have been made official, the Jays are at 40/40 on the roster. Travis Shaw still hasn't been officially added.

 

Now we play the "who is DFA'd first" game... Urena is my first choice to go, but there are definitely some options on who gets dumped.

Yeah, punt Urena and Valera to the sun. Use Espinal as the bench SS. We have to expect some pen arms and there's lots of guys that can either be optioned or DFA'd from that group, likely Pannone.

After his terrible start to the season in April the rest of his numbers for the year are much better. No way to know if the defense is good enough for MLB if he's never given any rope to start. The organization seems intent to give playing time to low ceiling guys like McKinney and Davis instead, might as well see what Alford can do before cutting bait with him completely.
