Yup. This is where I stand on the direction of the team right now. The general direction has been correct (and I think Shapiro has a lot to do with that) but the details of how it’s been put into practice have been highly questionable. I don’t think there’s any basis for arguing that Atkins is a good GM at this point. I don’t think he’s terrible either, but I’d like to see someone else in his role under Shapiro.

Is Ben Cherington still on staff as VP of baseball operations? Would it make sense to give him a shot at filling the GM role?

Derek Fisher has a tight handle, manages the game well, plays passable defence, and can knock down three's. What's not to like here guys?

Yeah could be. Not a big deal to lose him but he was mildly interesting. More upside than Fisher though he probably doesn't amount to much. Sanchez is a negative asset at his salary, he's due over another million and then next year he probably gets a raise to above 6 mil in arb? That's a non-tender to me. He's trash but the Astros might figure something out w him.

Biagini is okay bullpen filler but he's going to start getting raises too.

I get what you're saying. Stevenson is probably the only thing worth anything in our package. In the end it's just a trade where we shuffle around the timelines of C+ prospects probably.

Did you just say that Cal Stevenson has more upside than Derek Fisher? Wat

He suxxx

So try to bring in someone from the Rays ? We see how that went with Montoyo (not all their guys are smart). Anyone else come to mind?

He is a 4th OF or Teoscar is the odd man out

Yeah, but he slept with Matt Barnes ex-wife. Not a team player!

Fisher looks like a potential 20/20 guy over a full season, still just 25. Too much to give up for him though.

Seems to me the FO has certain players as targets and willing to overpay to get them.

You guys who are comparing this rebuild with Shatkins rebuild in Cleveland, can I remind you there's absolutely no guarantee he copies that rebuild with us

If all goes well we can get him to play side by side with Kawhi

Yes, the younger guy with good plate discipline numbers in the lower minors has more upside than the 25 year old AAAA player who projects to strike out 30% of the time in the bigs. Stevenson also weighs next to nothing which I assume contributes to his s*** power. Could that develop more or at age 22 or is his body done developing?

He also has a much lower floor as he could simply flame out the next time he's promoted whereas Fisher looks like he could be a solid bench player to me.

Is this so bad? I'm all for learning if I'm wrong.

Fisher was a fringe top 100 prospect like 2.5 years ago, and he has been stagnant since then. I'm not entirely sure what his control picture looks like but I would presume he has one or no options left and was maybe even a 2020 DFA candidate for Houston? Correct me if I am wrong.

It looks like we have 5 years of control and he has no options.

I think maybe Org was referring to the power/speed/eye combo of raw tools for Fisher, whereas Stevenson just has speed/eye. I could actually see Stevenson having a higher ceiling if his defense is a lot better than Fisher though. Like, Kiermaier elite or smth.

I think we have to face the facts. Ross Atkins was cuckolded by a stronger, more intelligent and capable male.

I gave him a pass last year for dealing from a weak hand on nearly every asset including Happ. This year it shows that these are the kind of players they're targeting. This f***ed up ideology that we'll take as many 24,25,26 year olds that are unable to breakthrough 25 man rosters stick them in our lineup and hope someone pans out.

Would of been on board with the traditional rebuild of getting top prospects and guys with standout tools. This method is just stupid. Nothing has worked out for them in these trades, Thorton still can't throw strikes, Teoscar still can't field or hit, Reese McGuire is a backup, Billy McKinney can't do anything, Brandon Drury still can't hit, Merryweather likely won't pitch the rest of the year, Randal Grichuk sucks but for some reason we are going to pay him $11 Million per the next 4 seasons.

We're going to be bad for a long time, thankfully the one thing they seem to be good at is drafting players.

Derek Fisher has 60 raw and 70 speed and has a good milb track record. This was a great trade for a guy who could be a legitimate piece of the puzzle and not just a backup.

I think that is a lot of Cherington... So, Really Shatkins aren't good at much...

Got to give some credit to Steve Sanders and his crosscheckers in Florida and Texas. Those guys have been money, if you look up who signed our best prospects the same names keep coming up.

No options really doesn't allow for much roster flexibility.. So correct me if I am wrong.. Once they bring him up.. Even though the Astros think he is still a AAA guy, we can't send him back down without DFAg him.. So we will have 24 spots on the roster if he comes up and sucks.. There is no way for perception reasons the FO will DFA a guy who they traded three players for... It will be like having Escobar?? Can't recall the name of the Rule 5 guy from KC who is hurt now we had to keep on the roster..

What's the Skydome?

That's the name the city of Toronto voted on for the stadium in which the Jays play, hence it is the real name.

Let this be a lesson for you.. Your vote doesn't matter man. You are just a slave to the corporate masters, a small cog in the wheel of the machine that allows you to think your opinions have significance. Soon they will confiscate and burn all reference and memorabilia referring to the Skydome. Saying that name will be a hate crime since back then minorities and woman were not a suitable representation of those who voted for such a privileged name..

You better get in step the next time you go to the Rogers center Deadpool! They are listening and watching, and they are everywhere!

To be fair, he would have to displace Brantley, Springer, or Reddick to get playing time, and is blocked from behind by a super prospect who is basically MLB ready.

Thanks for the chuckle on this otherwise dreary / disappointing day for Jays fans (they couldn't even lose the game to KC to help the tanking! J/K)

That is a fair point and I was considering that.. But isn't he really a AAAA player because he was in the ML and didn't stick? Or is that not accurate..?

He basically didn't stick because he was only called up to fill in for short-term injuries. The Astros have been stacked for a few years now.

Is he a sure-fire MLB regular? No. His combination of speed and power, plus the ability to play an above average CF, is exactly the kind of guy we should be targeting though. Plus, he draws lots of walks. That said, we basically had all the leverage in this trade, and bent over.

Relievers like Biagini emerge from the scrap heap every year for literally nothing, Sanchez also f***ing sucks, you can't bank on his potential every goddamn year when nothing happens

These guys are non-factors

EDIT: Why do guys on this board still give a s*** about Aaron Sanchez, he's literally the worst starter in baseball this year. This is absolutely mind boggling and all of you doing so should be ashamed of yourselves

You're no better than the Blue Jays fan page.

Anyone who disagrees with me..... Great argument bro.

His bat this year would be average with a normal BABIP. And he is fine defensively. Brings plenty of speed. And only 25.

He very well could turn into an above average MLB'er as soon as next season.
