SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I think a B- is a fair assessment. between the two top 10 prospects we've added to our group, and the two pitchers from the lower minors we'll get from Tampa in the Sogard trade, we've certainly added a ton of pitching in the minors. If we can get something decent for Giles, perhaps another decent pitcher or two, I would give this season's trade deadline take a B+. We've addresses a need as well as we could. Without the benefit of hindsight. With guys like Zeuch and Manoah, etc., I have way fewer concerns about out 2020+ rotation. And I hope with Sanchez improving, and arb4 on Shoemaker available for 2020, that they provide the value to get even more decent trade chips to add to our team next July. I really like how this is playing out.

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Montoyo is a f***ing idiot by the way Montoyo said he wouldn’t have used closer Ken Giles, who could be dealt before the trade deadline on Wednesday, in the game on Sunday. “He was not 100% so I stayed away from him,” Montoyo said. Good job f***ing moron.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 My initial reaction still stands, I think this was a bad trade. The Jays should have gotten more, especially since they did this deal 3 days before they had to. You guys have kept me from jumping off the ledge with the SWR hype, and maybe down the road we will look at this trade differently, but right now? It feels way too light of a return. If this is the best offer they got, then thank goodness this seems like the last season the Jays will go into the deadline with vet trade pieces. This market is prime for buyers. We need to start buying this winter (free agency, trading fringe/expendable prospects for vets, etc).
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Good lord... I was expecting more than... this. I'd be a little disappointed if Stroman was a rental and this was the return we got. I'd honestly prefer getting Frazier and a lottery ticket back from the Yanks. I see the appeal in Richardson, but man, Stro is literally the best SP on the market with an additional year of control. We should've got a haul. This front-office sucks. I miss Anthopolous

I'm not so sure this is the case. It's quite possible that the Yankees offered a better package than the Mets. However, because they are a divisional rival, it wasn't large enough for the Jays to accept it over the Mets' offer.

Unless the Mets flip him in the off season to the Yankees.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I bet there is a lot of media, front office and teammates that are glad to see him go.
Frag Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I doubt our FO thinks like this. Why not? Teams tend to ask for more from divisional rivals.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Stroman might not be valued all that highly by other teams because of his skillset. He doesn't strike guys out, and he's been lucky with his era.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Good. f*** him. Why do you hate a guy with the exact same personality as yourself..lol.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 well i have been drinking so there's that, but what's the rotation in 2021 or 2022 that will lead us to the playoffs. It's 2019 bro... A lot can happen between now and then.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 While I think the return was light, it's definitely better than anything we'd have gotten from the Yanks. I dunno man. Maybe. I think people are way too quick to jump the gun with the hype regarding SWR. Sure, the A-ball numbers look great, but we're talking the prize of the trade market. Stroman's a great pitcher in the toughest division to pitch in, you gotta get a better return than this, plain and simple. And the Jays are even paying part of Sto's salary. It's not good guys. And why jump the gun so soon? It's not like this was an offer that they couldn't refuse. I'm not impressed. It's a mediocre return at best, much like the Atkins tenure has been.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Why not? Teams tend to ask for more from divisional rivals. That's old school mentality man - straight from folks who believe in unwritten rules. You take the best package you can get - regardless of division.

Pearson, Manoah, Pardinho, Kloffenstein, Woods-Richardson, Kay, SRF, Murphy, Murray, Kendell Williams, Winckowski, Zeuch + Thornton, Waguespack, Borucki and the outside chance that Sanchez returns to form (July was great for him). I'm probably missing a couple guys, but I think it's safe to say our farm system is no longer void of pitching...

ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I bet there is a lot of media, front office and teammates that are glad to see him go. It makes me so happy to hear he's unhappy with the trade. Guy is the most entitled piece of s*** I can remember being on this team. Of course he wanted the Yankees because he is a "winner" despite having never won anything in his big league career. No Cy Young, no World Series, barely even deserved a rotation spot last season but he is entitled to play for a contender because he's Marcus Stroman. The Mets are just the ultimate twist of the knife. You got your wish, you're going to New York. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 After taking time to think about it, I still don’t like the deal. There’s just so much time for an 18-year old A-ball pitcher to go off the rails. I think the reasons for (apparently) committing to a trade and not exploring an extension also matter here. Obviously we don’t know and will probably never find out, but if this was a case of Stro wanting crazy money and the team’s hand being forced then it makes more sense. But I think this is a healthier org with a reasonably extended Stro than with the two prospects we got in return.
