The two positions that are blocking were not moved... Now we still have Smoak and Galvis...Those guys would have opened up playing time..

 

Who are Smoak and Galvis blocking? We don't have a 1B or util guy that's forcing their way onto the team.

This was indeed much more fun than your typical deadline. Will also be interesting to see how it changes next year and if there is earlier movement or another race at the end.

Bo unless you want Galvis on the bench the whole time. Rowdy is hitting well in AAA now, plus if we got rid of Smoak, you add positional flexibility for guys to rotate through 1B and DH etc..

Proof the Astros GM is better than ours.. He got Grienke for a package that consisted of Beer and cash.. Probably Corona Extra with a barrel of limes.. mmmm, mm good!

Galvis on the bench the whole time would be an excellent use of his below average bat and above average glove. Rowdy is shite, and I'm fine with Smoak playing 120 games at 1B next year and the other people who need ABs just rotating through DH (and keeping Rowdy in AAA)

welp, they aren't eating that much. Astros' pay ~2/3 apparently.

I feel like you're underrating Greinke a bit here. This is a good get for the D-Backs for sure, but Greinke is still an excellent pitcher and they're acquiring an incredible amount of risk. That's a pitcher currently recovering from Tommy John, a DH headed to the NL (although Beer absolutely rakes), another pitcher with great stuff and bad command, and a depth infielder who to his credit has hit at every level. Greinke could out-WAR this entire group over the next 3-4 years, and the Astros will have him for 2.5 seasons + the postseason.

He's also like 35 tho. He hasn't fallen off yet, but it happens quick when you're that age. No doubt it makes HOU better for this run, but I think you're super happy right now as a D-backs fan with that return

Wow, the Mets were ready to flip Stroman for Florial and Deivi Garcia? You don't say! I bet they were also ready to accept a Syndergaard for Cody Bellinger deal! Those Mets sure are ready.
