Yeah, no way Allard is better than Kay. A future value fastball of 40 according to Fangraphs. Yuck! Kay has potential mid-starter stuff and Allard has potential backend starter stuff.

 

Allard probably has a better third pitch, and certainly has better control + far superior age vs. level points.

 

Hard to say which one is better. I'd take the guy who does not throw 89 mph though if I had to pick.

I think you guys are forgetting this is for friggin Chris Martin lol who is 33 years old. It really does prove just how bad Atkins is though if guys like Chris Martin are getting the Braves #5 prospect.

Or maybe certain organizations value certain players more than others, that's the reason they have scouts....

That will always be true, but that still doesn't dismiss the fact that Atkins isn't good either.

I don't see how this trade is relevant to the Stro trade at all.

 

I'm not the biggest Atkins fan, but some of you guys literally find any reason you can to bitch about him.

Last line on the BA scouting report

 

Allard's margins of error are so small that he has to do everything almost perfectly to have success. He has an above-average curveball and an average changeup, but he has has to nibble with all of them because he lacks a pitch to get swings and misses in the strike zone.

 

 

Here's the last line of Kays scouting report.

 

Kay tops out at 96 mph and sits 92-94 with an above-average, high-spin fastball that plays at the top of the zone in conjunction with his curve and mid-80s changeup at the bottom of the zone. His change flashes above-average potential and sinking action. Kay pitches with a bulldog demeanor and wants to strike out opponents.

Or they could've viewed Kay as the secondary piece and SWR is who they really care about, maybe??? Plus, it could also mean that AA is a dolt.

As far as relatively well regarded prospects go, Allard is probably one of the grosser ones. Advanced command lefty who doesn't throw hard at all. It's entirely possible even the Braves don't value him as a 45 FV prospect, and they might be all in on Chris Martin's breakout as a reliever, which is dumn but the relief market never makes any sense.

It looks like Allard's velocity has been declining for a few years. That really cuts down on his value. If you can recover it though ...

Yeah. Apparently he had back surgery a few years ago. Maybe it's something related to that.

Smoak would be the perfect replacement, especially in that ball park. This is where a good GM can sell it to them, unfortunately we have Ross.

FFS, I'd be happy with Giles (pre injury) for Allard.

 

Martin is controllable for 4 more years according to Baseball-Reference.

 

OK. 33 - 37 years old

Yeah, after reading more about his current issues, that's a no for me too. I would have given them Biagini for him though.
