Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Does he need to play the field? We’re not exactly short on 2b these days. How much longer has Cespedes got on his deal? Only one more year. I'm sure they'll want to offload Cano in a Diaz deal though.
sdyment Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Four years $96million left on Cano’s deal... they would get literally nothing back if they attach him to Diaz

Diaz isn't worth 100M. It would be intriguing though. We'd be able to get a real prospect haul in deals for Diaz, Giles, and Stro.

Edit: just looked it up... $29.5m for next year. Think Rogers would do like the Leafs and spend huge sums to improve prospect capital? nope
flafson Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 It's amazing how many expensive players fall off a cliff once they reach mid 30's. Probably front office sees the success they had with Giles and think they can do the same with Diaz...

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 If we're interested in Diaz then the preferred move is probably to keep him. Let him get back to being an elite closer and deal him next year. It's not a terrible idea if tye price is right.

But if the Mets are willing to trade him just to get rid of Cano’s contract then the Mets are f***ing stupid and we could take advantage of that.

I don't see that happening after less than a season of when they gave up top prospects to get both Cano and Diaz, it's like surrendering without putting up a fight. It's not like they have a need for an elite closer right now in a pennant race...
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 RPs are so volatile. Maybe he will suck until the day he die He's not that much different than Giles when we got him. s***** ERA, great peripherals, and lots of control. He'd be a good guy to gamble on even if we have to give up some prospects. Get him back into form and he's a huge trade chip next year.

Right now he's not the big deal as a trade chip. Trade Giles and Stroman for prospects near mlb.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Maybe the Jays and Mets are trying to do a deal with Stro and Diaz as the main pieces, with the Jays flipping Diaz to a 3rd team. That would only make sense if the Jays could get more than Diaz for Stroman, that way we'd have a prospect(s) from the Mets plus whatever we get back for Diaz.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Brewers trying to move Moustakas or Grandal for pitching. I wonder if there's something there where we give them Stro and Sogard and flip Moose to a team like the Phils, getting prospects from both teams.
ColdPint Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Sabathia on the IL. Things are lining up well for a serious bidding war for Stro.
AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I love hearing that the Stros are making a push for Stroman. Give me some Tucker+. It would be a great deal for both teams. Like I said before, they'll be able to make Stroman's k rate spike, and have a solid option behind Verlander if Cole leaves in FA.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 They arent willing to deal tucker for Synder let alone stro False. They arent willing to discuss the Mets asking price...which was probably Whitley, Tucker, Alvarez Anything else is pretty much grandstanding trying to sway a deal

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Mlbtr False. A reluctance is not, not willing......and also do you think we are trying to get Torres and Garcia for Stroman...rumors are not truth
AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 They arent willing to deal tucker for Synder let alone stro You didn't read my post about how underrated Stroman is on this board, did you? Stroman should easily be able to get a prospect on Tucker's level. I'll agree it probably won't happen. Propsect valuation has skewed in the wrong direction lately. But if the Stros get their hands on Stroman, they'd instantly turn him into a Cy candidate...with control and the ability to extend. They are set in the short term when it comes to position players. They need more top pitching.

AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 He currently is a Cy Young Candidate Not according to the board here.
AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 We are much better off extending stroman I hope he isnt dealt I've always been about extending. If you can't get a top 25 or even 50 propsect, why take the risk that the propsect can turn into something when you have a consistent ~4 war pitcher on your team? He's a proven commodity. We need pitching more than anything in this rebuild. Trading him just to trade would be one of the worst moves Shitkins could possibly do.
