Ray Verified Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Clint Frazier + Deivi Garcia for Stroman.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) Depends who you asked. Most people would have still considered Meadows to be quite valuable in context... I think he was actually performing well for Pittsburgh that year. Lots thought of Glasnow as a bit of a dumpster fire though. It would be similar to getting Frazier + someone like Jonathan Loaisiga or maybe Jordan Montgomery from the Yankees. Yeah my first thought was Frazier and Loaisga since health permitted they'd both be in the Majors in 2020, and then add a low minors lotto ticket on top of that. Not a deal I would particularly like, but seems to fit the Archer deal model. Not sure how the Astros would stack up similarly? That's a pretty difficult type of deal to pull off successfully. If the Jays are looking for players who can come in and instantly become impact players, good luck. They'll have to guess right on an undervalued talent or two in that case, like Tampa did. Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 You need to be looking at Braves pitchers..second tier package..
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I think Meadows/Glasnow is closer to Tucker/Whitley in terms of raw talent and pedigree. Frazier looks like a dumpster fire in the field and on the bases and Loaisaga is most likely a reliever, and almost 25. I think even Shane Baz is/was a better piece than Loaisaga. You also have to think of what kind of leverage you have. The Yankees have no future plans for Frazier, why would he be the center piece? You know that they want to (have to?) trade him. Glasnow looked like a dumpster fire too ... until he didn't. Sometimes you have to bet on the talent, and Frazier has that. I don't think it'll matter though, as I don't really think we'll be sending Stroman to the Yankees.

Meadows had a wRC+ of 111 with Pittsburgh (albeit with awful defense)...however that was after coming off almost 500 PA's in AAA with a wRC+ <100. TB fixed him.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Some mix that includes one of for Stroman: Joey Wentz , Kyle Muller, Kolby Allard, Luiz Gohara,

I think another comparable would be like Drew Waters/Kyle Wright. Oh I agree, I am fearing scrolling on Twitter one day soon and seeing Frazier as the centerpiece for Stroman, but he fits the "former top prospect losing a bit of shine" category. Plus he was the#5 pick overall when Shapiro was president in Cleveland so there's that connection. You're right about Loaisga though. He's definitely not the same type of prospect as Glasnow was. Not sure who a good comparable in the Yankees system would be.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Clint Frazier + Deivi Garcia for Stroman.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 What? Deivi Garcia is like a top 3 pitching prospect in the game, and he might not be 3. What's not to like?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Yeah my first thought was Frazier and Loaisga since health permitted they'd both be in the Majors in 2020, and then add a low minors lotto ticket on top of that. Josh James is definitely a good comp for Glasnow. I'm not sure Fisher has the pedigree of a Meadows, but he isn't far off James + Beer would be an interesting start, although with Vlad already, we may be filling out up 1st/DH with young players pretty quick. Don't like Fisher as a piece, would rather someone with a higher ceiling like Freudis Nova or JBB.

Yeah I think James should be used as a SP but the Astros have him in relief, much like the Pirates did with Glasnow. Jays could pick him up and put him in the rotation. Five more years of control after this one. Although if a pitching saavy team like the Astros have him in relief when they have so many SP issues, then maybe that's a sign. I am not a fan of Fisher either (unless he plays an elite CF or something) but he was a former top prospect who has fizzled out. Hard to find a good comparable to Meadows on the Astros who they would realistically trade.

I don't think it'll matter though, as I don't really think we'll be sending Stroman to the Yankees. Jonathan Loaisiga has pitched 150 innings in total since 2016 and has not pitched more than 90 innings in a single season. I'd be pretty disappointed if he was the return. The ability to stay healthy comes before the raw talent for me when it comes to starters. Glasnow at the very least was a perennially highly touted prospect. He was viewed in 2015-2016 similar to what we think of Nate Pearson now. Towering hard thrower with very developed secondaries. Frazier I'd be fine with depending on what the second and third pieces are, but I would stay away from Loaisiga.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 What? Deivi Garcia is like a top 3 pitching prospect in the game, and he might not be 3. What's not to like? Yeah I don't like Clint, but I think I'd be ok with that trade, although it would be even better if we flipped Frazier to a 3rd team for something + keep Garcia.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Lads, Pittsburgh was trading for 3.5 seasons of cheap control over Archer. Not comparable at all to 1.5 seasons of Marcus Stroman.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Ya but The Athletic said Shatkins wants an Archer return so we have been given full license to be dumb. lol
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 What? Deivi Garcia is like a top 3 pitching prospect in the game, and he might not be 3. What's not to like? Deivi Garcia LOOKS good but Yankees are doing what they always do and leveraging him as trade bait. Limited innings, high effort delivery, no improvement on command. He looks like a good reliever. Don't get me wrong I like him as a piece but he's not going to make it into a rotation for extended time. He's not a top 3 pitching prospect. Clint Frazier is just not good, we don't need more guys that can't field.

Limited innings, high effort delivery, no improvement on command. He looks like a good reliever. This is absurd. No improvement in command based on what? Most minor league hitters against him these days probably take almost everything because they have no chance. A 4.2 BB/9 is perfectly fine. He dominated AA as a 20 year old. That's pretty nuts. So is 120 K's in only 73.2 innings, all as a starter.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 f*** I have hard time wrapping my head around '4.2 BB/9 is perfectly fine' - even when it comes from Laika.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 It's been reported by The Athletic that the Jays are seeking an Archer-like return (Glasnow, Meadows, Baz) for Stroman. Ha. f*** off!! I mean...that would be amazing...but just f*** off.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 It's been reported by The Athletic that the Jays are seeking an Archer-like return (Glasnow, Meadows, Baz) for Stroman. Good. It's not going to happen, but good.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 I'd take Garcia, Frazier, and a lotto pick all day for Stroman.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Does anyone think Hudson will get dealt? Seems like he's pitched well enough to attract the attention of other teams around the league looking for help in the pen. Solid veteran arm.

Seems like he's pitched well enough to attract the attention of other teams around the league looking for help in the pen. Solid veteran arm. If the Jays can get anything at all for Daniel Hudson, they have to make that trade. The predictive stats are far less kind to him than his ERA and he's a free agent after this season.

Seems like he's pitched well enough to attract the attention of other teams around the league looking for help in the pen. Solid veteran arm. I could certainly see it. His advanced stats aren't pretty, but upper 90s, cheap contract, and a nice ERA should get the attention of someone. We certainly couldn't expect more than a wildcard though.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 I think Hudson will get dealt for a Waguespack/Espinal equivalent. Nothing worth getting excited over but depth to add to the farm.
