Vladito hit a 1 handed double off the top of the wall

Having Pillar hit after Vlad is like towing a Toyota Tercel with a Five hundred thousand dollar motor-home..

Gurribabip continues to show why he is a terrible hitter, swinging at so many s***** pitches, looking silly on a first pitch slider, but he ends up hitting a middle middle fast ball down the middle for a single, so idiots will continue to think results over process.

There are all kinds of guys with great plans and do great in combines etc, etc. It is the opposite, at the end of the day you want results.. Process is theory, results is results..

f***, stupidity knows no bounds

Giles looked filthy in that inning. I hate the Spring Training broadcasts don't show velocity though.

Yeah, I don't think Gameday shows it either. It is shown on the scoreboard, but that's not helpful unless someone hits one that direction.

Do we think the game will ever evolve past the whole congratulating players for making outs but a runner moved up a base crap?

I mean, there's nothing wrong with congratulating a sac fly, it's better than not doing anything. If they're willingly going up to the plate to make an out then yeah that's stupid, but the game is hard enough where getting props for doing something to help the team should be encouraged.

I think it's more the announcers that I hate. Yes, it's ok when a guy can move up on an out, but let's not pretend the hitter is going up there with that in mind, because he shouldn't be. Nobody willingly hits a fly ball out as his primary goal. If it ends up being a fly ball out that someone moves up on or scores from, that's a positive for the team, but it's not something that should be an encouraged strategy.

For example, think a runner on second with 0 outs. You have a run expectancy of 1.068 based on RE24 calcs. Congratulating a guy making an out to move the runner to third cuts the run expectancy to .865

So you aren't really cheering a positive outcome, just an outcome that's less negative than it could have been if he made an out without the runner moving up, in which case the run expectancy would be .644.

Reward success, not the absence of failure

You're being a bit pedantic here. Obviously everyone would welcome a non-out in any situation, ideally a homerun but again, hitting is hard, anything better than a pop out or a strikeout is welcome. If a guy hit a flyball sufficiently deep to move a runner over that probably means they made pretty decent contact, that should be congratulated regardless of outcome, and it generally is.

97 today with FB. it was his 86 mph slider that confounded the hitters. No body could come close to hitting it.

If even the best are going to fail 70% of the time in the game, good outs vs. bad outs should be encouraged, absolutely.

If you're a hitter and you fail 70% = OBP of .300 That's pretty bad.

Aim for 60%

If you fail 70% of the time, you're generally a very bad player.
