It's possible he could play harder, now that he doesn't have to worry if he gets injured. It's also possible he goes the Hanley Ramirez route.

He might play 3B right out of the gate but when Tatis is up he definitely will.

There is something oddly satisfying about this deal. He gets paid but he gets to rot on a perpetually mediocre franchise. Meanwhile, he stays away from a contending AL team. It does make sense for them given their farm, but I'm sure the Padres will find a way to screw it up.

I doubt it. Their window probably starts in 2 years, or would if Preller manages to not screw it up.

Manny is young enough to still be good 2-4 years from now when their prospects are up, so if they are interested in Stro, it probably won't be for their best prospects.

 

Still, trading Stro for 2-3 of their 12-20 ranked prospects would probably be worth it (those guys would be top 10 in other systems) but whether they have any reason to is a different story.
