jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 BREAKING: #Rays finalizing deal to sign Japanese OF/INF/DH Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, a lefty power bat. Two-year deal would be in range of $12M, plus posting fee (about another $2.4M)
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Tsutsugo to the Rays Hard to believe the Jays couldn't beat that deal with money, unless he wanted a warm climate and hot spanish girls.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 That's f***ing awful. Too bad. Toronto better end up with a viable LHB for a better deal than that.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Well, there goes that. I guess that leaves, who, Travis Shaw or Justin Smoak as the best options? Smoak would make a lot of sense if they want to cheap out, which evidently they do.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 truly a Festivus miracle. Fixed that for you

Even if he signs a one year deal he'll have a 2nd year of control through arb, he can cover multiple positions, and is a bounce back candidate with the bat. Although at the rate the Jays are getting spurned by free agents, maybe they do bring Edwin back if for no other reason than he actually doesn't mind playing here.

Could even sign a RHB like EE or Todd Frazier, or someone who plays a different position like Cesar Hernandez then have Biggio bounce around the field more. Dickerson, Calhoun, Smoak, Avisail Garcia, Souza, Shaw, Maikel Franco, Cron, Domingo, Thames. Zobrist, Bird, Zimmerman, Jerko, Pence.... They need to add a bat though and Yoshi was such a great fit and a nice mix of upside and low cost.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Eric Thames has been about on par with Smoak since coming back, and was a lot better this year. He's another option, especially given that there's not a clear internal candidate to be parked at DH 4-5 times a week. Losing Tsutsugo hurts though, because we haven't really added anyone with upside yet this offseason. We pretty much know exactly what we're getting in Anderson and Roark.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Jed Lowrie + Dom Smith for nothing. I’d even be willing to do something. Makes so much sense.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 We could stick w/ Japanese guys and make a bit of a push for Shogo Akiyama. Not a huge bat, but he is LF with speed and is a natural CF. Smoak is a no for me, I think the team should be looking at positional flexibility, or at least considering it. I don't want an "everyday 1B" type.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 A Cespedes for the rest of us!
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Why was Shaw so dog s*** last year?
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Cespedes about to get the Bobby Bonilla treatment. That was a costly accident falling off his horse...
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 Why was Shaw so dog s*** last year? When someone falls of a cliff that much while still relatively young, there's often personal problems involved. He didn't have injuries. Drugs, family, depression, who knows? Or maybe it was just random, he didn't really play much after starting the first few months ice cold.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Lindor next or do they try one more season with him? Personally I think now or the trade deadline is the time to trade him if they can't agree to an extension. And I don't know if they can even realistically afford to keep him at market value.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 delino deschields jr and Emmanuel Clase involved in return.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Surely there's a top prospect also involved in this.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 so we signed Roark for 2 years 24 instead getting Kluber for 2 years 35 and spare parts. We gave Cleveland Josh Donaldson for nothing. Did they not owe us?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Surely there's a top prospect also involved in this. nope that's it...salary dump. Where were the Jays in all of this.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 What a s***** return. Angels couldn’t top this?
