glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Boras will break a billion after Ryu, Keuchel, and Castellanos sign. Damn. This much excitement in the off season and it's early December is a damn good sign. I know it's an unusually great free agent class this year so that might be the reason but Boras had his guys sign early this year and it has been so much better because of it. Hopefully this trend continues. But yeah, the Angels need to add at least one of Ryu or Keuchel now.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 If the Angels don't get Ryu or Keuchel their offseason would be a horrible failure. The FO better not call it a day by acquiring Bundy and some average starter from FA. f*** a pitcher. Give them a catcher. Stassi and Bemboom are worse than having a pitcher hitting. Jansen and Giles for Jo Adell. Best infield defensively in baseball now?

Probably not with Pujols still playing a bunch of games at first, but aside from 1B which no one even cares about an infield with Simmons, Rendon, and David Fletcher who can also back anyone up is up there. Hard to top Arenado and Story on the left side of the infield though.

Hard to top Arenado and Story on the left side of the infield though. Just two more years left on that contract. Time to say to Pujols, join Maddon on the bench full-time. Actually straight up using him only against lefties you can probably get positive value out of him. The 326 PA's he had against righties is about 300 too many. Him and LaStella make a pretty nice tandem at 1B.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 The Angels top 3 prospects are Adell, Marsh, and Adams. All outfielders. They have Trout and Upton at the big league level. If they can't sign a SP they'll probably end up trading for one. Joel Sherman mentioned Kluber's name but don't know if that's actually something being discussed. They seem to be in a good position to trade from their system though. Wonder if they'd want Giles for the pen.

I feel like they'd rather eat a bit of Upton's salary and trade him in return for a prospect (pitching most likely) than trade Adell for an ace, but we'll see.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 Rendon to the Angels Perfect signing to go with the return of Ohtani the pitcher and Adell's promotion later in the year. They really, really need Ryu to complete the off-season though.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Porcello gets 1/10 from the Mets.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Gardner back to the Yanks. 1 yr $12.5M + a $20M option for 2021.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) I think JD gets 3-year/$80M I say AA talks him into 3 years 75M plus an option with a 5M buyout. Edit: Which means it prob amounts to exactly the same thing. Edited December 12, 2019 by G-Snarls
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Gardner back to the Yanks. 1 yr $12.5M + a $20M option for 2021. You're off on the details a bit. It's 10M for year 1 with a 10M club option for year 2 with a 2.5M buyout for a 12.5M guarantee.

devo Verified Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 It’d be a fun exercise to calculate how much commission Scott Boras has made this offseason for himself. He’s at $814M in guaranteed contracts between Cole, Strasburg, and Rendon with Ryu, Keuchel, and Castellanos still left to go. Does he get to $1 billion??? Boras is at $878 million when you include Moustakas. Will get to $1 billion easily.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Boras is at $878 million when you include Moustakas. Will get to $1 billion easily. And Boras apparently takes 5% no matter how large or small the contract. So this off season alone will get him approx $50M paid at various rates spread over the next 4-9 seasons

I would go a step further and say that a team fighting for a playoff position can't squander a valuable roster spot on a right handed platoon player with no baserunning or defensive value. He's basically Kendrys Morales who can hit lefties. If the Angels are serious about contending this year, they need to work something out with Pujols.

It's not like he's a 1 man show taking all the money.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 It warms my heart to see the Red Sox scraping the barrel for Martin Perezes and Jose Perazas while looking at eating like 40M to shed David Price and possibly losing Mookie Betts to free agency and having a maybe-broken Chris Sale.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Tsutsugo to the Rays I can't believe he couldn't get a bigger deal than 2/12. Everyone seemed to think he would get a 4/40 deal lol.
