Looks like forum darling and Hardball times writer Jen Ramos was in an extremely serious car crash on the weekend.

Her husband was pronounced dead at the scene and she was taken to hospital in critical condition. Long, long road to recovery ahead for her.

Fixed.

Also im pretty sure Chase Anderson's 8m salary had something to do with Milwaukees incentive to move him for basically 0.

Bundy is not mid-tier. He's well into the bottom half of MLB starters.

Chase Anderson and Bundy are peers.

If Wheeler is getting 120 million that Gibson deal is going to look very solid by the end of this offseason. So will the Anderson trade.

We should go after Ryu now. Give him a 4th year and get it done.

Wheeler is such a weird case. He has so many above average pitches, yet the results don't seem to back them up. He doesn't have that one unhittable pitch like a lot of top pitchers do, so maybe that's hurting him a little. Maybe he just tends to lose it for an inning where he can't stop the bleeding, then is dominant the rest of the game.

Reminds me of Samardzija a few years ago. Everyone thought he had TOR stuff but he just never really put it together. Wheeler will likely be a solid 2-4 in any rotation, but might never be that #1 everyone is dreaming on.

That might not be enough considering the White Sox just lost out on Wheeler despite offering the most money. They're likely going to be very aggressive on either Bumgarner or Ryu.

The White Sox, Reds, and Twins are all looking to spend on SP's, and that doesn't include the bigger market teams like the Yankees and Dodgers who might swoop in. There will be a lot of competition for the upper/middle market arms.

Your logic is impeccable

If diamonds are worth a lot of money this aluminum can must be worth something too. I live my aluminum can

Disappointing:

it's criminal. He's blocked them from getting out to go to Tampa as well. I still say they triple attendance in Tampa. I see it as just owing $17M to not play their games according to the lease. But I might be missing something

The lease.

so Gerrit Cole 33.5 AAV...is it going to land over or under?

I think that's pretty close to what we see. I'm guessing 9/$300M so I'll go under, but barely.

I think aggressive in free agency, but 9 300 would scare the crap out of me.

Jesus that's like 5/125-130 with the pick attached. That is a LOT of money for someone who may or may not be actually elite.

Yeah, the market sure has changed, lol. I'd have been in on that still, I think the gamble's worth it.

It's a ton of money for sure. With all the Astros s*** going on I'd be a bit concerned about him being able to maintain what's he's done in Houston as well. Not sure how pitchers would cheat but he's been suspiciously good since moving the Astros.

So you would have been ok with the Jays giving Wheeler $25M + per season? Stroman is projected to be better and I think we could have locked him up for 5 years at under $100M. In hindsight giving Stroman 5/$80-90 might have been a good move. I'm not sure anyone predicated the market to move this fast. It's going to be a fun offseason anyway. Winter meetings will be worth tuning I to for a change

I don't think that's "taking a gamble" kind of money, that would be at most around the 4/80 or 5/100 level. IMO what Wheeler got is proven elite level contributor money, and I don't think that's what he is. While I would have welcomed the team signing him, maybe even at the aforementioned "gamble money", I would be uncomfortable with us giving him what the Phils ultimately offered.

TBF we don’t know for sure that we didn’t (though it does seems very unlikely). If we offered the same deal as the Phillies there’d be zero reason he’d pick us over them.

Fair enough. I'd be dancing in the streets... :P

Adding up total dollars like that without accounting for years committed, marginal wins, etc. is not an honest way to present the data.

As a point of reference, the Jays have at some point acquired or resigned 3 relievers (Phelps, Oh, Howell), 2 DHs (Morales/Pearce), an OF (Grichuk), and an SP (Garcia) for $115M. Failing to non-tender Travis before 2019 and Drury before 2019 and 2020 will end up costing about $6M.

Of course it did, they and others likely didn't see this market, Anderson looks like a steal.

Jesus Christ, that's an awful story. But this seems to be faks news, wrong person or no?

I believe it'll be over but term wouldn't certainly be that, 7 at most, unless they differ money.

The same offer as the Phillies, as we're discussing, maybe 5/125. Yeah, the market has jumped considerably, I wanted the Jays to extend Stroman(he's smiling now as his class of FA is slim), but something went array between him and Atkins, we've gotten a decent return on him. Meh... I like Wheeler a bit better moving forward over Stroman, or I could be completely wrong! :P
