He was projected to make 9.7 in arbitration. I'm not sure he's a 4th outfielder just yet.

Now he'll probably get half that salary on a 1 year deal

^ The ones that interest me, at a glance. Varying levels of interest of course and it's all $ dependent!

Koda Glover retired but the rest look like good targets

Wow that's sad. Absolutely ruined by injuries.

7.5M guarantee for Jake Diekman over 2 years. This market is not what it was the last couple offseasons.

1.5 fwar in 2019, projected for 1.4 fwar in 2020. Most of the value from fielding. Noodle bat 85 wRC+

Hard pass.

Pillar isn't good anymore. What I find sad is that very few things would have to go wrong for him end up our best outfielder next year.

Souza Jr. or Domingo Santana would be interesting for one of the corner OF spots.

I would give Maikel Franco a look at 1B or DH. Might catch lightning in a bottle like the Jays did with EE a couple of years ago.

I like Cesar Hernandez but the Jays don't have a spot for him at 2B, SS or 3B. He won't come here as a super utility player. I'm sure a team picks him up and gives him everyday AB's from 2B.

I don't think I can stomach another Eric Thames level defender in LF.

I'm not sure Cesar can play 3B or SS anyway, so he really needs to be on a team with an opening at 2nd. Maybe SS, but it's been a few years. I'm not sure the range would still be there.

Sorry. Should have mentioned Domingo Santana as an option at DH rather than a corner OF spot.

Yeah so he wouldn't make sense as a super utility guy anyways. He'll get a starting job at 2B somewhere in a heartbeat.

Santana bat doesn't offset his awful defense enough. He's a (s*****) idea to fill our DH spot though.

Franco's posted a wRC+ of 92 or less in 3 of the past 4 seasons. Edwin was consistently an above average hitter when we found lightning in a bottle. The 2 aren't comparable (outside of their facial similarities).

Souza Jr. was good in 2017...minor league spring training invite?

Agree on Cesar.

Hamels @ 18m is fine though

Negative value in the second half, turns 36 next month. It's a one year deal, so the risk is only money but I wouldn't be surprised if he is not a contributor in the playoffs.

I'm shocked you're being critical of AA. They seemingly overpaid a couple guys, but there's no long term commitments there either and they got the pieces they wanted.

None of the contracts seem horrible in a nutshell (some might be bad, I dunno) but the cumulative impact and bang-for-his-AA-bucks just seems so underwhelming.

The top ~7 on their depth chart were all 28 years old or younger. Hamels just has to eat a bunch of regular season innings, protect the kids a bit and take some of the pressure off them, and not suck. Anything in the playoffs would be gravy but look at what Wainwright just did.

It's almost like the theory is that they have so much surplus from Acuna & Albies, that they can just buy Wins at a 1 for 1 price. Riley better be making up for some of that lost Donaldson value or Donaldson better be coming back. They were one of the luckiest teams in baseball last year by WAR to wins. They can't depend on going 15-4 against the Marlins every year ... well maybe you can.

Braves lineup seems pretty underwhelming without another big bat.

Albies, Acuna, Freeman - great

everyone else - meh

Seems like the Braves could have pooled some of this second tier money into buying another marquee talent or two, and filled the remaining openings later by bargain shopping or from within. Always easier said than done of course.

Right-hander Zack Wheeler and the Philadelphia Phillies are in agreement on a five-year deal worth more than $100 million, sources tell ESPN.
