The Rangers are slowly building a very good, cheap, dependable rotation. They'll have Gibson, Minor and Lynn next season at something like $30M combined, with Gibson and Lynn also under contract for 2021 at similar AAV.

I would say that Davies and Lauer are similarly talented, but the latter has substantially more team control so yeah I'd say he's far more valuable. Prospects wise Urias was rated much higher than Grisham as well so it's a pretty puzzling deal for the Padres.

Grisham really broke out last year though, so I'm not sure we should just look at the prospect rankings to judge this. We really need someone like Grisham on this team!

Apparently Pomeranz got 4 years at 8-9M per year.

I like Pomeranz as a reliever, but that's a lot of money for a guy with a half season sample of being successful.

I would have been fine with 3/45 for Gibson.

Honestly with how contracts are looking this offseason and the benefit of hindsight I think 3/45 for Gibson would have been terrible. Maybe 2/30 but an additional year + $15M would have been too much.

Pomeranz was great after going to the Brewers and becoming a reliever, but yeah, that's a lot of faith on 26 innings of sample size.

At least the off season is picking up now.

Padres are paying Pomeranz more in millions than Pomeranz actually pitched elite relief innings last year.

YEAH! or you might have to spend your playing days in San Diego instead of Milwaukee!!

So true. If I was a MLB player SD is where I'd want to go. Gorgeous city, close to everything cool, and no expectations from anyone.

If we're not in on Gibson for 3/30 then I'm not sure who we would be in on.

Either aiming higher, maybe one of the Boras guys, or waiting for the bargains. Of course maybe Gibson just wanted to sign with Texas/not Toronto. I really hope Roark is not the best guy we end up with.

With Gibson off the board, I'd like to take a run at Keuchel. Projected at 3 years, $39M by MLBTR and still projected at 2.7 fWAR next season.

There's still ample enough starting pitching to improve the team. Gibson seemed like a good value buy, but I'd be happy with Keuchel and Pineda.

You know exactly which one it is

I'm having a hard time understanding why nobody wanted Villar for 1/10.5 or whatever he's going to make in arb.

Indians? They might have negative WAR at 2B. Of course there is the more logical one of the O's just offering him arbitration and giving themselves more time.

I mean if they are just giving Villar away I'm tempted to take him and play him at 2B and have Biggio become a 1B/2B/OF guy.

There's that option, but also using Villar as a super-utility type. We know he can play 2B and SS. Get him reps at 3B and OF too.

Yeah that could be better if they want to focus on developing Biggio's defense at 2B and Villar has a lot of speed that should help him in the OF.

I would have been fine with it as well. Steamer projects him as a 3 WAR pitcher for 2020. There's still guys like that left but there's also a lot of teams looking for them and we desperately need 2 of them.

I'd love to try Villar if we get him in CF. Yes he makes sense as a super utility but if you can get him in CF and he's average that's an even more legit piece than he already is. Could be a good buy low extension candidate as well, as it is his walk year.

This is a level of incompetence that would be shocking if it was any organization other than Baltimore. It's like they did not even try to trade him until just now and ran out of time.

I doubt he can start in CF. He's a bit like Emilio Bonificacio in that he can play all over but he doesn't seem particularly good anywhere.

I can't see how the O's are walking away as well.

OMG!!! MLBTR's comment section is nauseating.

Also, Rich Hill is some type of fighter, still going banged up and 40, what could've been.
