A bit of trivia to pass the time during the All-Star break:

In the last 30 season (1990-2019) there have been four qualified position players who have posted a season with a 200 or greater wRC+. Who are the four players? Hint: Two of these were during the strike shorted 1994 season. And one of these from 1994 was a bit surprising to me and led me to looking up who had posted 200+ wRC+ seasons.

One of them was definitely Jeff Bagwell in 1994. I remember stumbling upon his bb-ref and being shocked at his 1994 season. It was insanely good. Put up 8 something WAR in the strike shortened season and also won MVP I believe.

Joey Belle?

You know, on a peripheral note, I saw Joey Belle play in London, Ontario back in 1989 when, for five years, the Detroit Tigers had their Double-A team there. I remember him taking a slow stroll away from the batter's box between pitches, something which didn't bother me at the time but now would drive me nuts. He also hit a ball that not only cleared the left-field fence at Labatt Park but went into the Thames River.

He kept pointing and bringing up his jaw to the trainer. Not sure if he had a concussion but he was pretty shaken up from it.

Seems fair. If it was deliberate (and it looked like an accident) he would have got a lot longer.

Wait, so it was not deliberate but let's give him 2 games.. If it is deliberate much more? I am not following the rational.. There shouldn't be a punishment solely for the sake of optics. It should be is he guilty or not. If no intent, nada!

If it was intentional he would receive a lengthy suspension. This way they're acknowledging that he didn't mean to injure Lucroy or even necessarily barrel into him but they are punishing his recklessness and deterring any future attempts.

What I think it boils down to is this.

Was Marisnick trying to intentionally hurt Lucroy? No. I don't think so.

However, I do believe that the play was on the reckless side. I think that if there was intent, or MLB believed that there was intent, you're looking at double digit games. The 2 games is to make the point that players need to be in control of their bodies. There has to be more care/caution given than what we saw from Marisnick. You can't be completely out of control or someone could get hurt...which is exactly what happened.

I am trying to understand why it is reckless a runner giving 100% hustle towards the plate to score a run. Then the non-intentional theory: The runner sees the catcher's body move in one direction, the runner tries to move in the other direction to avoid, the catcher's body, tag and still be able to touch home plate. After committing to one direction (momentum and such forces in affect) the catcher then switches the direction of his body and goes back towards the opposite side where the runner had already committed.

Who defines reckless? What is reckless? Hustling, running as fast as you can 110% effort is reckless because you will not be able to shift your direction/momentum with adequate leeway? All runners must run at no more than 85% so as to allow sufficient time to shift direction to avoid injury?

It is a very slippery slope to define reckless, but no intent in that play.. The runners job is to avoid a tag and touch home plate.

Reckless in driving a vehicle is driving 40 mph over the posted speed limit when it is foggy and slippery and through a school zone etc... There are clearly defined parameters in this case that, one there is a posted speed limit, poor visibility, slippery surfaces, and a school zone.. You are f***ed!

What are the parameters in baseball? Catcher can't block the plate, and runner can't intentionally barrel over the catcher. That is it..

So back to my original point. He either ran into him intentionally, long suspension. Or it was in the normal course of baseball when the catcher shifted back to a side the runner had already committed.. Accidents.. s*** happens.. Why a suspension?

Is it too much to ask for the Angels to actually make the playoffs so that Trout can get a bit more exposure in his prime? I mean I'd hate if he was on the Yankees since it would hurt the Jays, but that would have been amazing for baseball. He's wasting his career in Anaheim.
