TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 I don't think dropping 2 affiliates per team would have any measurable negative effect on player development tbh. Modern player development is probably moving the process away from the traditional natural selection process anyway. I don't think it would at all. I think all players would be facing a better level of opponent. It would suck for those small cities that loose their teams. Although it might provide some more pop up Independent leagues.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Machado has a 6 team no trade list, but it’s not been revealed who is on it. Rays, A’s, Jays, and the Orioles 3 times?

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 League average player is having minor league contract discussions Teams simply don't pay for defense, Jason Heyward being the most notable exception and I imagine the Cubs had hopes that he could return to his rookie hitting form. Shocking that he can't get a guaranteed contract though, wow.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 We should be all over that tbh Actually yeah. Even if the team likes LGJ a lot, we'd be adding a decent cheap player who adds vetrin presents, happens to be Cuban and an elite defender at short so in theory he could act as a mentor of sorts on the defensive end. Justifiable move from several perspectives.

Also fun fact, at this stage in his career Jason Heyward has more 3+ WAR seasons (5 to 2 - yes, TWO), 4+ WAR seasons (4 to 1), and 5+ WAR seasons (2 to 0) than Harold Baines. If we take their best seasons and order them, Heyward has 5 of the top 6. Heyward has played 9 seasons to Baines' 22. Thanks, Today’s Game Era Committee!

Ray Verified Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Jeff Sullivan is leaving Fangraphs for an analyst position for the Rays. I really enjoyed him on Effectively Wild. He filled in well for Sam Miller. Rumours are Grant Brisbee will be replacing him as cohost.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Also, Marwin Gonzalez to the Twins. 2yrs $21M He ended up getting some solid money after all. If everyone is healthy where does he gets the majority of his PT? They are paying him starter money.

They are paying him starter money. I expect that he'll get most of his time at 2B in a timeshare with Schoop, but obviously he will also get time at all of the corner spots. I'm sure they will find 500+ at-bats for him. Nice add for the Twins.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 The Twins are having an excellent offseason IMO.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 How did Galvis get $5m and Iglesias has to beg for a minor league deal?
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 The Big Erv signed a non guaranteed contract? Didn't see that coming.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 How did Galvis get $5m and Iglesias has to beg for a minor league deal? No idea. Iglesias is probably a little bit better.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 How did Galvis get $5m and Iglesias has to beg for a minor league deal? Isn't Iglesias kind of a clubhouse cancer? It may be that they're counting on Galvis to help out future infield grow defensively. He also seems to be willing to sacrifice his play time in order to let the kids play. Iglesias probably wants to play everyday at short.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I'm glancing over the Twins depth chart right now, and I wouldn't be surprised if they win the division over the Indians this season. Their lineup besides Lindor, Ramirez, and Santana is not that good, and Lindor will likely start the beginning of the season on the DL.

Carrasco, Kluber, Clevinger, Bauer and Bieber is pretty filthy.
