Drumcliff Verified Member Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 Of course there’s a mystery team. How else can the current offers be goosed?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2019 Author Posted January 19, 2019 Would love it if Ohtani has started a trend, with Brendan McKay only a year or two away from the majors.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 IMO the Machado mystery team is someone like the Padres looking to kick start their progression after years of rebuilding. I could see the Padres definitely being a mystery team. AJ Preller isn't afraid to spend big, like we saw back in 2015 when he went after Justin Upton, Matt Kemp and Craig Kimbrel or signing Hosmer last offseason.

Best farm in baseball and still manage to f*** it up. I just thought, it would be really funny if we dealt Stroman to SD right after he got his tattoo lol.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 The Reds would be very stupid to trade Shed Long and pick #36 for Sonny Gray.

Deal's done, pending physicals, apparently. Lol Reds. Dunno how I feel about Long going to NY. I hope he can stay at second.

It's the ++ that makes this horrendous. Pick #36 has tremendous value.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Cashman would have gotten way more for Happ, Oh, Osuna, etc, than Shatkins did. That's not a knock on Shatkins either. Cashman is just that good.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 If the rumours are true, the Reds are paying an absurd price for one year of Sonny Gray. The best GM in baseball strikes again.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Have you taken into account that Gray is terrible? He's really not - just terrible results in 2018 despite one of the best SwStr% of his career and the best velocity he has ever shown. He projects well. Decent chance of being a 3+ WAR pitcher in 2019.

Cashman is just that good. I doubt it, the stakes are different. Cashman could of just held on the Gray if he wanted, we needed to trade those guys asap. No doubt though it's an insanely good trade for the Yankees and I can't even believe that their are rumours of a 3rd piece.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Anyone else notice that Fangraphs' 'support our site' popup comes up on every page now, instead of every 20th or whatever it was before? Site is pretty much unusable now.

Still, the Reds overpaid for just one year of Sonny Gray and it's not like they're going to be real contenders in 2019 as well.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 The Gray trade to Cincy appears to be contingent on him signing an extension. That at least makes it somewhat sensible for the Reds.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 We should trade Stroman to the Reds.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 We should trade Stroman to the Reds. Padres imo Get Chris Paddack while it's still possible
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Padres imo Get Chris Paddack while it's still possible Guess the prospect expert who wrote this in November: Paddack sure came back into dynasty consciousness quickly. Don’t let the stats fool you; he’s pretty unlikely to be more than a solid SP4 in a solid pitcher’s park. But he’s pretty close to the majors at this point and given his age, the Padres won’t hold him down for long in 2019 if there’s an opening and he’s upright. Don’t expect more than 2018 Mike Fiers and you may not be disappointed.
