If nothing else, Shapiro’s ability to attract and develop talented executives is second to none. Goes back to his days in Cleveland really. By that virtue alone, I really want him to sign a long term extension here. I’m not quite sure what the hold up is there.

He sure didn't hire a talented GM, I will be glad when the team is done losing mode and Rogers puts a real top staff in place.

Toronto drafted Shane Farrell back in 2011 with one of their throwaway picks. Sometimes those things pay off down the road.

Jays drafted their managers son as a favor, nothing to do with him being hired.

In fact I would have not hired Shane just because his dad screwed the team over.

Seems a bit spiteful..lol. This kid's only 30 years old. Can't have a ton of experience. I'm not saying he won't be good, but it's quite a young hire.

His dad was a shite manager, him bailing on the Jays was him doing us a favour.

I disagree. Baseball is a business. If everyone had thin skin everyone would hate.

So was Steve Sanders.

The Mike Piazza of amateur scouting directors.

It’s all about connections and networks in lots of businesses. You must pump gas or teach or something like that?

Hah!

Although outsiders might think that Shane Farrell’s hiring as Toronto’s amateur scouting director was aided by his family ties, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet shares that the hire “won’t likely be popular with Blue Jays fans”—in part because many club followers still bristle at the team’s decision to trade Shane’s father John to the rival Red Sox in 2012. Still, Nicholson-Smith shares that the younger Farrell was described as “very intelligent” and a “strong evaluator” by an unnamed NL scout. Then again, it’s not as if any claims of nepotism could have been entertained seriously, considering that the Cubs interviewed Farrell for their VP of Scouting opening just this offseason.

Clearly I don't know how to make that bigger, but I assure you it's worth reading.

Making it bigger sure doesn't help.

Wow that is a must hear interview

I've never heard such candor from a sport executive

AA would have included Syndergaard if the Marlins had picked him over Nicolino

Loria knew the deal would be awful PR but agreed to it anyway

Bud Selig spoke with Rogers chairman at length to make they sure they understood the implications.

Both teams knew Josh Johnson was busted but when the Marlins found out Alvarez had undiagnosed elbow problems they used the leverage to keep the trade in place anyway

Holy s*** I'm so glad AA is gone. Thanks for JD and Vladdy, but stay as far away from this org as possible, Alex.

He was willing to give up Thor, knew JJ wasn't healthy, and still did the trade? That's infuriating.

Yeah. The AA haters will be all over this. And rightfully so. Just wow if this is all true and it probably is.

Thor still hurts so bad. He would have came in clutch for us in 15 and 16. Still remember how Dickey pooped the bed against the royals

On both sides. Exactly

Buehrle probably provided the most value of any of them?

Probably to a lot of us, JJ was the key man of that deal (well, to me he was, anyway)... and had hopes that he could rise to perform something like how AJ did for us... then he ended up being the worst piece of the deal.

Buehrle’s contributions I had no issues with and even Reyes would have been okay had his defensive abilities not broke down like it did. At least he brought Tulo though and we were able to get rid of him before that whole wifebeating incident (cuz one we would experience few yrs later would have been more than enough, rather than two).

AA was evolving as a young smart inexperienced GM at the time to where he is today up with the very best GMs in the game.

He will resurface with the Jays one day i predict.

And great find MikeM with that GM review of the Reyes trade

I could see AA return as president of baseball operations sometime in the distant future. A glimpse into the history of the Jays franchise makes his return seem inevitable.

I think the Jays would be better off without a guy that treats prospects like poker chips.
