Edwin Encarnacion would sure look good in a Jays unifrm right about now. I visited his hometown in La Romana in the Dominican a few years ago and attended a winter ball game there.

Does anyone know where SWR is going to be assigned? I saw that he was actually promoted to High A the day of the trade. Hoping he gets that promotion with the Jays too

He's already been assigned to Dunedin and Kay to Buffalo.

He can't even see straight right now according to the recent articles. I'm thinking he clears waivers.

LOL....just got home and didnt see other posts. So now you have another post, how's that.

And it looks like we got another nobody in return: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=hatch-000tom

Why not keep Phelps, Jays head a team option in 2020

Because the Jays get at least 6 years of a pitcher who could very possibly be as good as (or better than) current David Phelps. Its a no-brainer.

You're assuming he even makes the majors though

What can David Phelps provide next year that some other pitcher of the scrap heap can't provide?

Proven relief?? His ERA's over the last 3 years:

2.28

3.40

3.63

Look, I dont mind trading him, I just wish we got a bit better prospect in return

His ERAs over the past three years are:

3.40

N/A

3.63

What's that in the middle? Oh right, he missed a year to TJS and then his fastball velocity dipped by 2 mph, as did his production and projections.

I'm guessing there was some concern that he might not return to previous levels next year. Fastball velo is down over 2 mph and he's not inducing swinging strikes. Hard to complain about them deciding to cash out now for a guy they find intriguing rather than roll the dice on him increasing his value a bit next year. He only has one season as a high-end reliever, so it's far from a given that he returns to that level.

Not a whole lot difference between a 3.40 ERA and a 3.63 ERA. Obviously the Cubs thought he's still a valuable reliever, or they wouldnt have traded for him

Sure, but Thomas Hatch though??!! :(

Anyways, I hope all the trades this week work out but I have my doubts

His ERA is worthless. His FIPs and xFIP (SSS for 2019) + projection

2016: 2.80 FIP, 3.15 xFIP

2017: 3.55 FIP, 3.75 xFIP

2019: 4.78 FIP, 5.03 xFIP

RoS Steamer projection: 4.25 FIP

David Phelps is not worth losing sleep over. The Cubs have a tire fire bullpen and are just throwing s*** at the wall and hoping that Phelps sticks.

Galvis DH is...something. The guy has a .278 xWOBA. Shouldn't be getting at bats when you can give them to the young players.

First of all, who the f*** is Buddy Boshers? That is certainly a name.

Apparently he's a left handed AAA reliever from the Jays. Appears we plucked him away from the Mexican AAA league this year. Sounds like a keeper.

Hopefully the Jays move both Galvis and Smoak today. I wouldn't mind Galvis sticking around if I felt he would be used as a utility/bench player, but he'd probably get a ton of AB's that would be better served for younger talent. Some team out there could use infield depth, and we already know teams showing interest in Smoak.

I'm sure Urena can manage a passable Freddy Galvis impersonation ROS and maybe next year as a utility/bench guy.

Yup, both should be traded
