This Justin Shafer guy really sucks. I wonder what the Blue Jays like about him because he walks literally everyone.

...and babip wont stay above 400 forever(lol Gurribabip).

His BABIP is .321 you chucklef***. And his CAREER BABIP is .326

Your nickname is bad and you should feel bad. Also, even if it was accurate, which is absolutely is f***ing not, it would be bad 'cause it just sounds monstrously stupid.

Guy hits ball hard. Guy doesn't walk. Guy bad in minors with low sample size. Guy hit .275 .315 .490 or so in major, same basic profile as in minors but a bit better... guy hit ball hard. Hit's some homeruns. Strikes out a lot but not a ridiculous amount for 2019... guy hits some home runs. Will he keep hitting homeruns?? Will he keep hitting ball hard??

Where did the batting average in play thing come from?? It's like he's fluking out a .320 average overall with a .400 babip... his numbers look perfectly ordinary for a guy with a bit of pop and not great plate discipline.

Well, it was just a matter of time before he took out an umpire. Not sure I see anything wrong with it though. It was a bump then a right cross. Clean to the chin and good night.

At least now we will get to see Alford on Monday

Well gulp I guess I'm wrong, but he had a 9~%BB over a decent sample so its possible to cut K% 33%, but hackers gonna hack and get destroyed in the mlb.

I think there’s a difference between a guy that looks completely clueless at the plate, swinging at everything and gets nailed constantly by breaking balls (e.g. current version of Grichuk)

vs. a guy that is very aggresive at the plate and goes after borderline pitches, but sees the ball well, has good bat-to-ball ability, and prefers not to settle for walks.

LGJ is closer to the second type of hitter, and so is Bo Bichette. If you look at all of Gurriel’s XBH the past month, almost half of them have been off tough pitches like sinkers and sliders. He’s been laying off more pitches out of the zone as well. Someone pointed out above, His BABIP really isn’t that high either. He’s only in his second year and already posting 120-130 wRC+ and ~.800+ OPS type figures, that’s not bad at all.

Nobody is thinking Gurriel should be your no. 2/3 hitter on a great team, he is a fine 5-7 type hitter. He’s also not eating any significant payroll and under many years of team control, there’s really no point slandering the poor guy especially when he’s been picking things up recently.

If he can keep up 120 wRC+ while being adequate at LF that’s an everyday player. In a system currently severly lacking in OF talent, I’m not complaining.

LGJ's way to cement himself on the roster was to play several positions adequately, 2B/3B/SS/OF. Right now he might be a league average hitter who is stuck in LF, and he's far from the prototype out there. He's going to have to prove he can either play on the infield (while not going mental at the dish) or that he can play CF (maybe? I have no idea but probably not) to become a long term piece.

Astros could be a suitor for Stroman. They could use some depth in that rotation beyond Verlander and Cole.

Kyle Tucker + Jose Urquidy. Would that be a sufficient enough package? You're getting one elite piece in Tucker + a MLB ready pitcher in Urquidy with elite peripherals even though he's not a top prospect.

Kyle Tucker alone would be so overly sufficient that Houston would probably stop returning Toronto's phone calls.

Derek Fisher is a toolsy player who they would definitely let go because of his demonstrated bust potential. Imagine if Billy McKinney had a black guy's name and some black guy tools but was actually still white and maybe not any better. They have at least a dozen intriguing pitching prospects to deal. I think several other teams would go harder for Stroman though (Houston's pitching depth is not bad and Stroman is not the Ace injection that a team like Houston will really be looking for).

To get Tucker, we'd probably have to add on our side. I really don't think Houston will trade him though.

As Laika said, Derek Fisher would be a reasonable potential target. I think there's other teams that are likely better trade fits though.

Derek Fisher suxxx. Whatever Atkins does I hope he avoids his post-hype sleeper pickups this year like he got in the Happ deal and gets some meaningful prospects.

Stroman+ for Forrest Whitley let’s go

I hear he threw a fit a couple times on the mound, buy low! We can even throw in some compromising Osuna pictures in to sweeten the deal. They can even have Alford to “soften the blow.”

I think we need to temper our expectations on the trade returns for Stroman and Giles. I'll give Atkins somewhat of a pass since he's practically never sold high or at the right time on anyone aside from maybe Diaz, so he's always trading from a position of weakness, but he hasn't exactly filled me with optimism as far as trades are concerned, and the league as a whole is not trading top prospects anymore.

I'm sure there are still trades out there that will end up being solid overall, but I think we'll be looking at the 45-50 FV area, not anything above that.

The Twins could really use Ken Giles and they’ve got some good prospects. If they believe in their WS chances, that could be enough for them to give a more aggressive offer.
