LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Pompey is looking like he belongs. I would be surprised if the Jays let him go. Maybe based on todays game only but he hasn't walked and has struck out 11 times in 37 PA this spring, that wont get you far in the bigs

Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio reassigned to minor league camp. Both will start the season at AAA.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 The Astros reportedly play Fortnite like crazy. I'm sure the Jays are just cutting it off a couple of hours before the game starts or something.

Yeah, they really don't need to be playing video games DURING the game...
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 I bet there is a decent case to be made that certain video games are beneficial to hitter development. Reaction time and recognition - stuff like that.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 I don't blame Carlos Santana. I don't care if they play games in the clubhouse but during a game is really disrespectful. You should be out there supporting teammates even in exhibition games.

You should be out there supporting teammates even in exhibition games. He maybe should have did it earlier. When the Philadelphia Phillies lost their ninth consecutive game toward the end of last September, veteran first baseman Carlos Santana felt like he needed to send a message to his teammates who he said spent portions of the game against the Atlanta Braves playing video games in the clubhouse. Santana grabbed a bat, retreated to the room at Citizens Bank Park where the gaming took place and smashed the TV to ensure there would be no more “Fortnite” the final two days of the season. “I see a couple players — I don’t want to say names — they play video games during the game,” Santana told ESPN. “We come and lose too many games, and I feel like they weren’t worried about it. Weren’t respecting their teammates or coaches or the staff or the [front] office. It’s not my personality. But I’m angry because I want to make it good.”

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I remember when Rickey Henderson and Bobby Bonilla played cards during a playoff game.

Reaction time and recognition - stuff like that. I can attest to this. Last time my ex-military buddies and I took down a drug kingpins houses for over $500 million stuffed in the walls, just over the border of Brazil and tried to escape across the Andes to the ocean in an old Russian Helicopter, I really felt my Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Black Ops skills served me well. As a matter of fact, I am going to put my self in for a Medal Of Honor I performed so well. I credit hours and hours of advanced level first person shooter games for honing my soldiering skills.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 So either Teoscar gets optioned or Pompey is gone.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 So either Teoscar gets optioned or Pompey is gone. Curious what they will do, Teoscar has mashed in the spring, but we kinda know what he has to offer at this point. Pompey has had an okay spring but still probably has some value yet undiscovered if he could stay healthy + consistent.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 So either Teoscar gets optioned or Pompey is gone. Or Clay Buchholz doesn't start the year with the team. He hasn't made an appearance yet.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 So either Teoscar gets optioned or Pompey is gone. Buchholz is probably going to open on the DL so they can carry Hernandez and Pompey if they go with a 4-man bench and 7 relievers. I think that makes sense, because they're not facing any immediate roster crunch on the pitching end. The bullpen right now is: Giles Norris Tepera Biagini Mayza So they can still roster Lucianio if they want to, plus one of the guys with options (Gaviglio, Pannone, Paulino, Thornton). I guess it depends how much they care about losing Pompey, because I don't think Hernandez is being optioned.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 CA Jansen, Maile IF Smoak, Gurriel, Galvis, Drury, Urena/Sogard OF Grichuk, Pillar, McKinney, Hernandez, Pompey DH Morales DL Travis SP Stroman, Sanchez, Shoemaker, Borucki, Richard RP Giles, Tepera, Mayza, Biagini, Norris, Luciano, Gaviglio DL Buchholz, Phelps Of course things will get dicey when Vlad needs to come up and when injured players get healthy, but that's probably what we are looking at to begin the season.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Yeah they may just cut Pompey loose. There's a way to keep him for a little while while Buccholz gets his feet under him but it's going to be hard to roster 5 OFers. I would have liked to see them keep him somehow but McKinney and Teoscar probably need to be playing in the bigs and Alford is waiting in the wings and is a better asset.

Yeah and if they are serious about keeping Luciano it makes sense going with an 8 man bullpen to try to protect him. Paulino, Barnes (out of options) or Axford could make the team.

Paulino, Barnes (out of options) or Axford could make the team. Danny Barnes was DFA'd and he wasn't even claimed. There's next to zero chance that he makes the team, considering we'd have to bump someone off the 40-man to make room for him. Axford could make it in theory but he's also not on the 40-man so it's the same scenario.

They seem to want to keep Morales around for his presents, but they might as well make him a bench guy and go with Hernandez at DH while platooning McKinney and Pompey in left. At least the right players will be getting AB's. We really don't need to see Morales playing everyday.
