We'll see how this plays out. People were excited about Jaime Garcia too.

We saw the worst case scenario play out with Garcia and there was no real damage done, which was a big part of the reason why people liked the signing.

Wat?

By letting him go we eat 38 mil less the league min which is just under 600K, do we not? I would have just rather not saved the league min salary and kept the asset, because Tulo is putting up a monster 5+ win season this year. Put that in the bold predictions thread! Feel free to laugh away at me now!

So we should never praise a low risk signing because a low risk signing didn't pan out that one time?

Would it matter to the Jays if Tulo put up a +5 season in a Jays uniform. No. He was blocking Gurriels development and would never take a bench role.

Long time ago he was an asset. Time to retire.

I thought he was going to have to lose that spot at ST, some serious disconnect between the two, obviously. I don't understand why you keep bringing up League Min. though, it's $555,000. And wouldn't have mattered.

It would have matter a ton because we could have traded him at the deadline this year and got back some decent prospects. I don't rate Gurriel as highly as some do, but even if Tulo was here, we could have played Gurriel at short and 2nd and played Tulo at short and DH. We could have found at bats for both of them for a few months until the deadline hit. This all hinges on Tulo still being capable of being a very good player. We got rid of Tulo because management no longer considered him an asset of worth.

You've been the high guy around here on Tulo. You gonna have egg on your face 3 yrs running.

Yup. That's exactly what I said.

My point is that expectations should be tempered. If he overperforms...awesome. I'm not expecting him to.

The best way to learn about combat, is to be in Combat.

Ya!

f*** that basic training s***. Sign em up, throw em on the front line with a helmet, uniform and gun. Would save all kinds of tax dollars. Why the f*** is marching in unison even a thing to train? None of that s*** matters in a foxhole.

Tulo has no value, hard to believe they could get any prospects of worth at all.

Getting rid of him before the season was probably for the best.

Eating 38 million sucks either way but at least releasing him frees up a roster spot for another young guy or someone who doesn't mind being a bench piece.

Sounded like Tulo had no interest playing here unless he was the full time SS, it wasn't going to happen.

Would he have rebuilt any kind of value before the deadline as a bench player? Doubtful.

It just wasn't going to work here and that's the truth of it.

It's sad, but true. Paying him to not play for the jays AND paying someone else to play his position is better for the team

It feels like we have 1 guy (Borucki) that has a good chance to make it through the season in the rotation and stay healthy. We have 8-10 guys that have a better than even chance to be out of the lineup due to health or performance. We need at least 2 maybe 3 more SP that have are in the 3-5 area of the rotation. Let spring training sort out who starts the season with the big club.

Or the Jays will dumpster dive as needed during the season.

SRF, Pannone, Paulino, Thornton, and Waguespack are all on the 40 man roster and have options remaining. Merryweather too whenever he gets healthy. The Jays need someone who can eat up innings (preferably Yusei but most likely someone like Gio) but otherwise I'd expect a s*** ton of innings from the minor leaguers on the 40 man roster. Even if Stro and Sanchez start the season with the Jays, they probably don't finish with them. There is going to be a lot of turnover in the rotation throughout the season.

Yea, except the 2 guys we were talking about are already combat vets and did fine. Why would a guy who has tours in Afganistan need to back to basic.

If you are putting those guys in AAA it is because of roster flexibilty etc, not because they are not ready or that pitching in the International league is going to give them better development then in the MLs.. Lets just be honest as to why they would start in AAA.

He sounds like a positive guy and I like that he uses a variety of adjectives.

Adjectively, it's a good thing.

And from that day forward, in the small kingdom of Canada, Dec 28th was known as the day of the boner. All Canadians had a boner that day, even the woman and non conforming to typical gender identity them had boners.

There has not been so many boners in Canada since the Dickey press conference.

He would be excited. He has a chance to pitch as a starter on a team that will have a very good offense over the next two years with a long leash due to s***** SP depth, at least as of today. This dude has 22 wins then free agency written all over him.

Which team would that be?

My thoughts exactly lol

Jays had the 10th best offense in baseball last year and are adding Vlad and Jansen. So, I'm guessing DP was referring to the Blue Jays.

I thought we use runs scored, and they were 17th.

Or you could say that the Jays had the 14th worst offense in MLB last year. Or you could say that they had the 6th worst offence in the AL.

That's one way to do it. Another way would be to look at team wRC+ which the Jays were 10th. It's just that their base running was sooooo bad (worst in the league by a country mile) that the overall offensive WAR was 15th. If the team doesnt give away 30 runs on the bases this year the offense could be great

Why is the "w" in wRC+ not capitalized? I have noticed this in other metrics, too. Just curious is anyone knows.
