TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I'm not upset that my close, personal friend Troy has moved on. It's the best thing for all involved and brutha got paid. What annoys me is when people crap on AA for pushing in chips and taking on salary at a very reasonable moment to do so, completely disregarding 1) the success of those teams 2) the fact that almost every prospect we traded turned out to be nothing and 3) the salary that was "wasted" on Tulo, Josh Johnson, Jose Reyes, etc could NOT have been spent on superstar free agents since those players never would have signed here and the Jays had to be opportunistic in acquiring big money players by trade. They act like AA was a spendthrift lunatic, which is absolute revisionist history. AA was a brilliant contract negotiator, a great drafter, and a very shrewd trader. The fact that the team didn't win the WS during that competitive window doesn't change any of that. I don't think we'll ever agree about AA. However I give AA credit for the risks he took. I think he got lucky in 2015 but regardless it set up the team well for the 2016 run. In the same situation I would have "went for it" too. Writing was on the wall for him and it probably is what got him the Braves job.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 BTS, can you do your f***ing job? Thanks, Everyone I wish I had more powers here. Gurribabip would be changed to 7 foot, 150 lbs. or something like that.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 If Beane didn’t lose his mind in 2014, then AA would be an assistant somewhere right now, best case. Thanks for JD and Vlad. That’s about it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Well we had two veteran SS's on the team already and dumped one for a fringey prospect and the other for negative 38 million. I would like to know what kind of player they are seeking exactly.
justafan Verified Member Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Time to move on. Tulo had little chance of playing. Jays may save a few mil if someone picks him up over 2 years. Maybe if he has a good year, 2020 he can make more and the Jays pay less. Not sure what happens with the option year. Perhaps someone can fill me in. Martin should have been gone long ago. They may have to eat 18m or so, but then he is gone Morales, they still need a DH. He is grossly overpaid but has some value - maybe at the deadline. I think 2020 and 2021 will be very exciting (maybe not good, but exciting).

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 Tulo was a big part of changing the momentum of that season, people forget how much of a liability Reyes had become on the field. Tulo came in, provided elite defense and changed the whole mentality around the team. Saying that, no one can deny his injuries and hitting have been disappointing. Overall his tenure as a Jay will be remembered as a failure. His arrival was also very quickly to become less of a story than the arrival of David Price and his 9-1 ride through August/September
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 Doubt anyone signs him to be a SS. To be a 1B/DH type and see if there's anything left in the bat, maybe. On a short leash. Lots of fans on news sites are clamoring for their team to try him at 2B
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 So after literally saying he wouldn't move off shortstop... I bet he puts up 2-3 WAR as the A's second baseman for league minimum salary Because that's the kind of s*** that happens there
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 If Tulo agrees to a position change somewhere else then he can EAD. Entitled based on what he was half a decade ago while here but flexible somewhere else? F him.
justafan Verified Member Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Maybe there could be a bit of a bidding war!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I understand doing Tulo a favour, it's a nice touch actually. The Diaz move makes even less sense now though. If he's actually healthy enough to contribute we cut him a huge favor. Should have played hardball with him and got him to agree to a reduced buyout. The only way this makes sense to me now is if he's simply a bag of bones at this point and can't really play anymore.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Or his agent will return the favour with a client somewhere down the line. I tried to look up who else this Cohen guy has but couldn't find it within 30 seconds and gave up. Yeah I guess that's possible if they simply want to create a sense of goodwill. In the end that's all ******** IMO, money talks and players sign where they get paid the most. Some of them want to sign with winners but it's usually the winners paying more anyway.
Todd Van Anus Verified Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 So after literally saying he wouldn't move off shortstop... Tulo is a scumbag. Good riddance.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I don't understand what they are trying to do at SS now.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I don't understand what they are trying to do at SS now. Presumably they’re adding someone? Because right now the 2B/3B/SS depth is Drury, Gurriel, Travis, Urena and literally nothing else until Vlad. And only two of those guys even belong on an MLB roster.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I don't understand what they are trying to do at SS now. I guess they really believe Tulo won't see the field again. FFS, we're rebuilding anyway. Just let Martin start there lol. (yeah, I'm kidding just in case it wasn't clear). Sounds like they want a vet who can play half a year and then be flipped or something. Maybe this is the year of the great money eating. Who is a vet with a bad contract who can still play the position?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I will miss his presence being missed on the field.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Yeah it's a stopgap then Bichette. Seems like Diaz would have been the perfect stopgap though. I get the corpse of Tulo not being that stopgap, but if he's healthy this year and plays for another team he would have been a good stopgap on top of seeing if we could get the deadcat bounce in the process.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Or his agent will return the favour with a client somewhere down the line. I tried to look up who else this Cohen guy has but couldn't find it within 30 seconds and gave up. Nick Markakis and Evan Longoria.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Good to put this chapter behind us

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Morales has been a negative WAR player over the last 2 years. They absolutely don't need a full time DH. Hernandez is perfect for the bulk of the DH duties. Chance if he doesn't have to deal with being a s*** fielder, he gets a whole lot better at the plate.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I don't understand what they are trying to do at SS now. Give Gurriel every chance to develop into something at that position in 2019, and then either way roll with Bichette in 2020. The Jays really need to add a primary back up infielder though. I sure as hell hope it is not Urena.
baubau Verified Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 38M to do nothing? Man that cost is TuHigh. *badum tish* /logs off
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 At near min salary is there a contender that adds Tulo? I mean the Braves are the obvious one. Yanks to cover for Didi?
