Absolutely wrong, I am sorry, but with all due respect you are very, very wrong on this. NO WAY the Jays win the AL East or the ALDS without Tulo.

You think the Jays win 6 fewer games in 2015 without Tulo, who only played 41 games total?

I'm sorry but can someone please explain why this move is good/makes sense?

All it does is open a spot for Gurribabip, and he is not good at baseball, he is infact bad at baseball, with a very small chance of maybe being ok.

It only makes sense if Tulo is too injured/probably will never play again.

A 34 year old Tulo (if he is healthy enough to play) will outperform Gurribabip 75%~ of the time in 2019.

They are discussing this on MLB radio.com.. It makes perfect sense what the Jays are doing and they laid out the positive and negatives. I am agree with their consensus, this is a good move for the club.

Does the $38m count against 2019 payroll? Not sure how that works. If it's off the 2020 books, then that is huge. Even more payroll room next year.

Not sure how they'll pay it out but this year is probably the worst year of the next 3 "rebuilding" years. So if we could put the majority of the 38 mil on this year it would be helpful.

Unfortunately, we'll probably never know how the accounting shakes out.

I guess it makes sense for tanking, because we clearly are a worse player with Gurribabip instead of Tulo(assuming he is healthy) We are inching closer to a 100 loss team for 2019.

How is the 2020 draft looking?

Rogers isn't going to voluntarily accelerate payment - I don't see why that would make sense. You can assume Tulo will be paid on the original contract's timeline and they have simply released him from his responsibility of playing for Toronto.

Buehrle - retired

Johnson - walked via FA

Reyes - moved in Tulo trade, Tulo was just released

Bonifacio - traded for cash considerations

Buck - included in Dickey trade

So, yes, the book is closed.

And the other way is starting to look better at least.

Alvarez in Mexico

Disco barely over replacement in 21 starts last year

Yunel retired?

Hech, might play on every team in the majors before he is done as a 25th man bench piece

Marisnick 4th OF extraordinaire not sure if Houston offered him arb

Mathis - only player in the deal with a guaranteed 2020 deal...that seems f***ed up to me.

Nicolino - Considering Asia

Hoffman - suxxx has one more option and probably only has a shot as a reliever

Castro - Might be the O's best pitcher.

hard to believe this deal was actually short term loss (hit $100M in year 2 of the deal) but not one player sustained anything.

Martin is going to be traded with cash eaten up as well (most likely).

Surprised Rogers is okay with this. I guess it's mostly sunk cost anyway, and in Martin's case they should save a little bit.

Jays could have saved money waiting until Spring but diid the “noble thing”.

Tulo said he was going go home in Spring Training if he didn’t win the Shortstop job. They could have suspended him without pay and saved that money.

I don’t understand why the Jays agreed to release him now without saving money. Has to be more to this.

The Blue Jays won the AL East by 6 games in 2015. Tulo played 41 games that year in the regular season and was basically a defensive specialist. He was also terrible in the playoffs that year (and in the 2016 playoffs). Tulo didn't move the needle whatsoever for this team. His acquisition was a massive mistake.

Agreed, and if I we want to be honest,we didn’t suffer defensively with Goins

at short. Now let’s get rid of Martin.

I dunno, DeSclafani had at least an xFIP below 4.

Wow didn’t really expect them to bite the bullet, but Morales has to be next - release him as soon as Vlad is up (assuming Morales can’t be traded).

Jays were at 40 men exactly without too much to drop that isn't a potential asset. Might mean that they have a signing ready or a trade.

The Jays were 2 games below .500 before Tulo. Price could only pitch every 5 days. Ask yourself what changed on the roster, D (EXTREMELY important), was it slap hitting Ben Revere...? What was the difference between the roster before the trade deadline. and after? Tulo had a lot of big hits during the run, helped the pitching staff immensely, he motivated the team and gave them a huge boost. Look at the record after the trade.. Why, what happened? What changed?

I think they were at 39. 38 now that Tulo is gone.

Yeesh, what a horrible situation. So much dead money. Atkins must REALLY think he's cooked. Otherwise it would have made more sense to bring him back as a backup IF to see if we could get a dead cat bounce.

The above tweets are why.

sorry correct. Now at 38. Still feel like something happens this week. Next guy off the roster? Drake, Maile or Pompey?

Tulo was a big part of changing the momentum of that season, people forget how much of a liability Reyes had become on the field. Tulo came in, provided elite defense and changed the whole mentality around the team.

Saying that, no one can deny his injuries and hitting have been disappointing. Overall his tenure as a Jay will be remembered as a failure.

Or opening up a spot for the rule 5.

The 40 man roster spot opening up for 2019 and 2020 is pretty valuable.

That's a good point. Or he could have made it, built up some value, then trade him and eat 2/3 of his salary instead of close to what will be most likely the full amount.

Martin when he’s traded.

He stabilized the IF in 2015 when we were all being driven mental by Reyes. He did get some big hits for us.

He wasn't the player we thought we might have gotten and he wasn't the player we paid for in salary and prospects (the Reyes contract sucked too). 3 WAR in 16 and 2 ish in 2015.

I cant be too critical of this AA move but choking on the rest of this contract.

is Marcus at it again????

I can’t believe Atkins once again forgot to run a decision by Marcus Stroman.
