polar bear Verified Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Diaz had a .857 OPS in the 2nd half with a .290 babip and .233 ISO. Thought he deserved a shot to start next season so we could see what we really have. He was trending up. Definitely got better as the season progressed.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 You should stop trying to make this a thing. It's not funny, it hasn't caught on, and it's getting so cringey. + it doesn't even make any sense. His BABIP ended up at .328, which isn't outrageous - especially for someone who's well above average in exit velocity and was top 10 in the league at the % of balls hit 95 MPH+.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 So the Jays FO must think one of a few things: 1. Tulo will be back 2. Gurriel is capable defensively at SS 3. They like Thornton more than Diaz and will try and pick up another SS this offseason If #2 pans out that would be great for the franchise. The FO could simply be counting on a combo of all 3 occurring next year though. 4. We're going all out for Manny Machado
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 4. We're going all out for Manny Machado I personally want nothing to do with someone who is apparently allergic to the idea of running when he makes contact.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 You're overthinking it. This FO is banking on Bo Bichette as the franchise shortstop and is fine with stopgap options for 2019. This is the right answer. The left side of the infield by 2020 will be Vlad/Bo. Where Gurriel fits in remains to be seen but he is not the long term answer at short either way. I guess they are willing to try him there in 2019 and see what happens. I’d rather have a real SS out there especially if we are trying to increase the value of our GB starters but maybe Montoyo will shift enough to compensate for it.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I personally want nothing to do with someone who is apparently allergic to the idea of running when he makes contact. Did you like Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion?
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Did you like Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion? Personally I'm ok with guys not running full sprint out of the box. I get running hard down the line if you suck, but I don't think you want your star players increasing their injury risk just on the off chance a fielder absolutely botches a routine play.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Ureña suck since day 1. Gurriel suck too. Tulo can't play over 50 games. Bo and Vladdy are the guys
Ray Verified Member Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Thornton had 5 of the 10 highest recorded curveball spin rates in the AFL: https://www.mlb.com/news/top-statcast-performers-in-arizona-fall-league/c-300999734 Maybe we found our own Collin McHugh

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Did you like Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion? Donaldson, Carlos Delgado all guys that don't "Run out" routine ground balls
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Donaldson, Carlos Delgado all guys that don't "Run out" routine ground balls But none of them advertised it.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 But none of them advertised it. Not to mention the play in question was a single that should've been a double, he's just back pedalling now.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Not to mention the play in question was a single that should've been a double, he's just back pedalling now. In the post season too
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 To be fair, his exposure to the post season was non-existent and he grew up with a stupid team that tolerated his behaviour. If Buck Showalter was your manager during your formative years as a player would you not have been poisoned as well? Now that he has been exposed to how baseball should be played, he can adjust his attitude accordingly.
