I wonder if all of this mediocre high level pitching depth points to using an opener more often this season.

This seems like a pretty f***ing stupid trade. We need Diaz right now.

f*** Aledmys. This team is going nowhere right now. What we need is to add pieces and lottery tickets. Diaz is not a key piece of any championship team. He's a depth piece that you add when you're already a contender. His existence on the Jays is completely irrelevant.

Carlos Danger says, love it if was Travis. Don’t like it because it was Diaz. I think he could have turned into a Marcus Scuturo type.

Did I mention Travis is still on the team. His D sucks and his bat hasn't been compensating for his D. He will be injured again.

Hope this means Biggio is on the fast track to the team next summer!

We didn't add a piece or a lottery ticket. I'd rather roll the dice on Aledmyz. He looked great in the 2nd half of last year. A good start to the season and we could have trade him at the deadline for a real lottery ticket or piece.

How many bases are going to be stolen off of that delivery. Billy Hamilton would be at 2b before his foot hits the mound.

It is like we got a pitcher and one of the Rockets all in one.

If the Jays are worried about 40 man roster spots why not give Tulo his outright release - pay him out - he no longer has a bat and didn't have a bat in his Jay's tenure. Awful hitter at the end. He's now older with heel problems and his defense was no longer great. He won't be here when the team attempts to contend and he has zero trade value (because he is terrible).

And there is a good chance he doesn't play next year because he will probably sneeze in the shower and break his back.

Release him. Save a prospect from being taken who winds up being the next Yan Gomes.

Trade Pillar for some single A lottery tickets and move Grichuk into Center. Trade Martin and $16 million and Morales and $10 million for same said single A lottery tickets.

This is four 40 man roster spots opened up. None of whom are needed on a 2019 team likely to finish 4th. Keeping them around because you have money committed is dumb if in the process you lose guys who COULD wind up being very good players.

I'd also try and move Smoak since he could probably net us something useful and again - not going to be here in our contending years.

Most of this has probably been said before but time is running out.

I also wonder about Diaz - all star in 2016 and yet the Cardinals dump him the next season for a nothing prospect. Then the Jays have him in 2018 and puts up good numbers and they trade him. Something might be up with this guy. Serial killer vibes or something?

Im not thrilled about the return either but this just simply isn't true.

His delivery off the stretch actually appears to be pretty quick, you're deluded if you think he's going to be pulling off the high leg kick with runners on base.

I just don't see them making this deal if they don't think he can get through (like when they added Forrest Wall, they did it because they didn't feel they needed to add him...teams seem to know this stuff about other teams). Or there is a lot of wheeling and dealing going on this is to protect another player they don't want to lose. I think it's a bad looking deal regardless but having to add him to the 40 would make it that much worse (unless they truly believe he's a bullpen star and there were many teams pursuing him)

He won't make it through, according to Luhnow there was plenty of interest.

There are probably less than 3 key pieces of a championship team on the Jays right now, that doesn't mean you just trade the rest for what appears to be well below market value.

A 1.5-2 WAR shortstop with 4 years of team control shouldn't be what you give up acquire a guy like Thornton regardless of whether you view him as a key piece or not.

How many players on Boston would you consider to be key pieces of the championship team? Certainly Betts, Sale, Martinez, the closer, Xander, Benintendi...

Name the rest of the key pieces, then look at the rest and ask yourself if you'd trade any one of them for Thornton, then realize what an idiotic statement you just made

Not sure I like this trade, however we do need some starting depth, had a log jam, and at least Thornton comes with some upside possibility. A funky delivery with high spin rate could make him interesting in relief later on too.

And with Jansen behind the plate. Weak arm

And with Jansen behind the plate. Weak arm

4. Danny Jansen, C Video

Drafted: 16th Round, 2013 from West HS (WI)

Age 22 Height 6’2 Weight 225 Bat/Throw R/R

Tool Grades (Present/Future)

Hit Raw Power Game Power Run Fielding Throw

50/60 50/50 30/45 30/30 45/50 55/55

Scouts’ opinions were all over the map during the first few years of Jansen’s career, with some barely regarding him as a prospect, but those have narrowed into the 45 to 55 FV range now. We’re buying that Jansen’s 2017, which included more walks than strikeouts across three levels of the minors, is a sign of real improvement — perhaps due to the new prescription frames he got before the season. He’s a fringe receiver with an above-average arm, which is fine if there’s real offensive contributions, and Jansen is difficult to strike out with plenty of on-base skills. He’s a near-ready everyday catcher, even if the pedigree, path, and skillset aren’t usual.

Why bother? Guy's skull is probably thick enough to stop a bullet.

Not a big fan of this deal but hoping to be surprised. I don't like trading a decent defensive Shortstop with power and 4 years of a control for a guy that might be a fringe starter.
