He will be listening to the Podcast. It is a former member the BJMB universe. Offered $125k job as a Senior Analyst with the LA Dodgers in the same week he was offered a job in Cupertino with Apple. No life details needed. Tell how he made a terrible decision!

My god, you're senile. I know who you were referring to, dinglenuts, since you're the one that told me in the first place

Who got these offers, you? It depends how much you really need the money. Give me the job with the Dodgers every day of the week

I don’t think I’d even leave 10k on the table to work in baseball, let alone 105k.

Living expenses may be very different in the two areas, so there could be other factors. If he works his way up to GM for an MLB team, he could also end up getting significantly more than he would with Apple.

If you are starting at the salary he was offered at Apple...got to figure there is great growth potential there too. He could tell you a bit about crazy living expenses in Northern CA though.

It's a much more fun debate to have (believe I ripped him for his decision) when it isn't you making the decision.

I think if I worked in baseball I would mostly likely hate baseball within a matter of months. So then not only would I be underpaid but I'd lose my passion for one of the only things I'm actually passionate about.

Working for a big league team seems like it would be a thankless job with long hours, in any capacity. Also working your way up the baseball food chain seems next to impossible (being white probably helps tho). Being a GM would be awesome, but outside of that, I'd take the corporate job. When it's $100k more, it's a no brainer. Take the $225k, work the corporate life, invest in real estate/business/stocks on the side, and become a millionaire in 10 years. Then watch baseball on TV.

FTFY... for real, he'd still end up a young top executive as a hobby. There's another on this forum in the Jays org, lol.

Edit: Former poster.

Poster in hockey analytics is another... all 3 are Boss!

When I work sporting events (multi-sport games) the office part of the job isn't really that much different than when I was in the financial industry. It's still emails, meetings, spreadsheets and calendars. But the people you work with are the difference ... they also love sport. Makes for a much better work environment at work and after work. There is also the end game where you get a chance to see the sports take place.

I think working in baseball would be cool because it's probably a great group of people who love baseball as much as you do. With that I've still never pursued professional sports as a career as I know it can be a really stupid, underpaid grind.

Fair enough, maybe I am wearing the rose colored glasses. But I just think it would be so cool to work in a front office and be a small part of a team's success. To have the chance to make some contacts and maybe, just maybe, work your way into a prominent front office role with a track to a GM job, I don't know if I could turn down that chance.

But.... One way of looking at it is that you are essentially paying 105k per year for the privilege of working for an MLB team instead of apple, since you should be earning 225k but instead chose 120k. When I look at it like that I feel like I would be obligated to take the 225k on principle.

Have you ever thought, that window is always open? He left the Birds for peanuts on the dollar, Jays didn't know what they had under AA. Entailing this, Alex is an idiot. He should f***ing listen. That's a reason why folks don't like Alex. He's said some dumn, real dumn s*** first hand, pick through the AA thread to figure it out. Heh... and I like him.

I'd also like to add that $120k that he was offered is not the norm for a baseball head office job. The Dodgers might be the only ones paying that for an Analyst. That same person was offered minimum wage by another MLB front office.

I kinda just told that story, lol. Sorry. Now the other is enduring said analytical job.

It's a wonder why more FO's don't pay more for talent. There's no luxury tax for the front office staff. Build a f***ing army of brains, analysts, scouts and actually pay them a wage that reflects their value.... all that s*** that actually makes people want to work for you and succeed.

Yeah, I don't get this either. One clever innovation or insight could be worth more to the team on the field than a big free agent signing (or save you from making a bad one).

I'm super intrigued. Do you think the offer from the Dodgers only came because of the experience he got from the internship? What kind of work does he do with apple? How long has he been in the industry?

Do you think you need to show some sort of innovation on your own time before you will be offered a job? I remember jfas used to post here, he invented TIPS then all of a sudden his account was scraped from the site and all posts were deleted. So he obviously got a job somewhere, but I don't know if I could ever hope to come up with something that clever

Just wondering...if I have a rant about the Portuguese, is that racist? It's one topic I'm considering.

Hi all, I'm a long time reader, first time writer. Been a Bluejays fan since around 1985.

As a part time producer I thought I could give some input.

In addition to the topics mentioned, I think you should add a segment like "Retro Blue Jays Player of the Week". It would be an interesting fact followed by the players name. You could save it until the very end. That would hook the listener and they'd be excited to hear who you selected for the week. It would also be a great closing line. So as an example, you could say "Lyle Overlay grounded into a double play (GDP) 24 times in 2008, but reduced his GDP to 8 in 2009. That's why Lyle Overlay is *pause* your retro Blue Jay of the week".

Thoughts?

My client is declining all interview requests at this time.

I will buy your client a case of beer for his preshow drink.

I believe your client would not turn down this offer

Ok well it's always good to get the ridiculous low ball offers out of the way early

Anyone can chime in, should we stop s***ing on the Orioles every episode?

I won't say never, but not at this time. Org and I were talking about something yesterday and I said "that would be a good topic for the podcast". But I'm old and had too many concussions and can't remember.

Oh, you went to the game with the kids? I couldn't go because of work.
