ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 The reanimated corpse of Helen Keller would be better than Tabler That pregame blackout wouldn't of slowed her down either.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Fletcher was great lol. "Here comes the hammmmer, here comes the hammmmer" and Doc strikes a guy out with a curve right on cue. What made it annoying was Jamie Campbell trying to shut him up all game. I dunno who did commentary back in the early 90s on Labbatt Blue Jays Baseball on TSN but whoever it was, I don't remember him sucking like Buck and Tabler. Buck is just a weird, drunk uncle who corners you at family functions and does a weird breathy beer laugh. Tabler just has straight up run out of things to say so he fills the silence with nonsense, and if you watch him over a 3 or 4 game series, he says the same s*** every single game. I really don't know of a better option though. I mean as much as we complain about Buck and Tabby, after listening to Harold Reynolds in the playoffs, I can at least tolerate them some of the time. I honestly think I'd prefer Harold Reynolds to Pat Tabler...and that's not speaking highly of Reynolds.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 It was either Shulman and Buck or Jim Hughson and Buck. Well.. it was definately Buck in the 90s... Either with Schulman or Hughson... Buck is OK as a color guy.

I rate them about the same, but Reynolds is made worse by having more exposure on national broadcasts. I shudder to think of the younger generation of fans being misled by his moronic analysis. Edit: Not to mention he's one of the commentators in The Show and he's just as f***ing stupid as in real life, so I guess points for realism there.
DaKiNdLa Verified Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 I've always been a huge Jim Hughson fan from back when he was the voice of the Vancouver Canucks on Sportsnet Pacific before he went national with HNIC. Loved listening to him do the CBC Jays games as well. Was sad at the time they stopped those and got stuck with Jamie and Pat for all games
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 I learned so much as a kid listening to Kubek... yeah, Kubek was great.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Montreal Expos guy's named without bringing up Dave van Horne?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Author Posted March 28, 2018 Wilner had a pretty good call on Vlad Jr.'s homer last night. He'll do fine.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Wilner had a pretty good call on Vlad Jr.'s homer last night. He'll do fine. It was a good call but his voice is not the best for radio, he was basically just screaming. The passion is great but it's a tough listen when he has calls like that.
leaffie Verified Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 While a terrific moment, it was a spring training home run. Wilner is far too dramatic on the simplest things. If he was in the booth when Carter won the world series, Wilner would probably have had a stroke and fell out of his chair leaving dead air.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Still not as bad as Rob Faulds. The other day, I was at a bar and they had QMJHL hockey on tv. The commentators were Rob Faulds and Sam Cosentino, lol. How the mighty have fallen.

Huh, last time I played the Show it was Vasgersian (great) Campbell and Karros.

leaffie Verified Member Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 No, actually I dont mind Wilner,if he is just calling the game. It is just those home run calls of his. Jays are down by five and a HR with no one on base sounds like they just won the WS. Trying too hard.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 I don't mind Siddal, but I don't know if he's a good replacement for Zaun. Siddal's a little too much like Cambell in his hosting style, it's better if you get a bit of a contrast going on for the pre-game shows.

5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 No, analyst-host is how it works. True, but personality wise they're quite similar. I found the odd-couple chemistry between Jamie and Zaun to be quite entertaining. I would've imagined he'd be replaced with someone with a little more flair. Siddals quite smart though, so hopefully it'll be good.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
