Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 I think a lot of us are definitely bullish on the team but what positions do you think are bad? I think the outfield won't provide much. I'm not big on the middle infield...and I don't think Martin or Morales are going to get better.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Okay, so people like you that think the team is mediocre or bad, what about it is bad? What makes you think they'll underperform the projections that currently have the team as a contender (really only with the Angels) for the WC2? The projections assume everyone plays to their career standard putting more emphasis on the previous seasons, with some regression for overperforming players (Smoak), growth for young players, and decline for older players. I don't think there is anything outrageous about them and yet it has us as a pretty decent squad. Really, like any team I think the only thing we need is some decent luck with health, it doesn't have to be Grichuk putting up a 5 win season. Even with injuries this team has good enough depth (in the lineup anyway) to compensate to lose certain players. The Jays won 76 games last year with the middle infield consisting of Goins and Barney for most of it. It pretty easy to see the Jays winning considerably more games with most of the players performing somewhat close to to their projections.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 I haven't said the team is bad. The lineup is bad. Offset by a good pitching staff, the team is realistically a .500 team +/- which means the WC2 is possible. This is exactly the kind of team the Jays fielded for 20 years after 1994. Lol, because every team the Jays had for 20 years after 1994 was the same. You sound like Grant.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Lol, because every team the Jays had for 20 years after 1994 was the same. You sound like Grant. Those teams had a good/mediocre/bad talent mix for consistent .500 +/- seasons. Same as this years team.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Those teams had a good/mediocre/bad talent mix for consistent .500 +/- seasons. Same as this years team. The fact that we'll most likely see Teoscar starting in LF with Pearce at DH vs LHP while keeping Morales on the bench has got to be worth a handful of wins alone. The Travis plan seems viable and we should see 100 - 110 healthy games from him. The middle infield depth has improved massively and Bautista has been replaced with Grichuk. If we stay relatively healthy, I think a 10 win improvement from last year is realistically and conservatively within reach.

I agree almost 100%, I just don't have any faith in Travis staying healthy. Him, Alford and Pompey are all doubtful to me right now. Need to see a year long healthy streak for each of them before they shake the "injury prone" (or worse) stigma in my mind.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 What about Grichuk? I figured he was a lock for RF. He as showed a decent spring so far. Providing he is healthy which it does not sound to bad i think he will have one of the outfield locked down. s*** youre right, totally forgot about him. Having a useless Morales on this team really makes the OF a logjam. Blasting him to the moon would greatly simplify things. However, an inevitable injury to someone will probably unjam it for the most part all season long

Yeah there isn't a ton of special talent there but steamer and zips all like those players well enough.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Jays playing little league ball today.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Jays playing little league ball today. With a bunch of players after Diaz, Pillar, Pearce and Teoscar that are Buffalo-bound, along with today's starter.. Borucki needs more seasoning in AAA.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Man Redsox seeing Santos so well. I don't think he makes the roster based on that appearance

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Price looks great. Like his old self It's Spring Training, nothing against Price but it's far too early to be saying that.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 It's Spring Training, nothing against Price but it's far too early to be saying that. True, but he was hitting 93 with his cutter, according to the broadcast. He did look dominant, albeit against a B line-up.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 His Stuff isn't as dominant, but you could see the confidence on the mound, and the Slider looked amazing. He made Hernandez look horrible in the one at bat in the 5th. First getting him to swing on the Slider inside and then the Slider outside. I think Price might have a 4-5 Win comeback season, which would be a huge add for the Redsox.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 That's because he faced a B line-up, Hernandez better figure out the curve ball/off-speed or he's in trouble, that prediction isn't bold, like at all. He did look sharp, though.
