Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 If the Jays ate 100% of Morale's contract, suggest a team that would give Morales a roster spot. The only team I can think of is the Whitesox, and there is absolutely no reason why they would take a roster spot from a young developing player for Morales. *sighs* I'm not having this argument, again. The Jays aren't eating his entire contract. https://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=dh&stats=bat&type=steamer&team=0&lg=all&players=0 https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=dh&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) Everyone hates Morales so much right now I'm thinking he'll probably have a nice bounce back season just to troll his biggest critics. How many times have we gone into a season thinking the offence is strong and the pitching is weak only for the opposite to play out... Or vice versa. Look at Smoak last year and how it worked out. As Luke said, "this isn't going to go the way you think." Edited March 11, 2018 by Krylian

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Last year, did they project Morales and JB to have negative war? I'm not sure, check it out, bro? DH's don't do well in fWAR, because of negative defensive value. It's better to look at wOBA and wRC+ Kendrys was awful last year, but he's a year removed from being one of the better DH's in baseball.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 11 million isn't a sunk cost, although Gibbons has already said he won't see as much AB's this year to utilize the infield and outfield at DH. Do you know what sunk cost means?

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Morales looks to have lost weight. I saw Sano today. He's massive. He plays third which gives me hope Vlad Jr. can play somewhere besides 1st for awhile

He plays third which gives me hope Vlad Jr. can play somewhere besides 1st for awhile True but the only reason hes playing Third Base is because they are playing a ton of money to Mauer and they can only put him at 1B because he can never catch again. They have even tried Sano in the Outfield lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Post history shows he's a Goins fanboy, could still be trolling, but not likely. It still blows my mind that people actually liked Goins. It's almost like people enjoy being miserable.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Goins is awful and I'm still annoyed at the pop up he dropped in Game 2 of the ALCS when Price was dealing. No love from me. Although, he's a Royal now, so a .418 BABIP and .335 average is the only logical 2018 season for him.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 The Goins fanboys/girls would hate this forum, that's for sure. I mean, Zeke annoyed the hell out of me, but at least he had some decent qualities (good obp last year). Goins was absolute trash aside from the last two months of 2015. Never been so happy at a non tender before.

AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Yanks just landed Neil Walker. I really really wished we were in on this, I know we had a good offseason but Walker is a better bat than Morales, a contributor at multiple positions, on a team that is old and injury prone.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Did JPA exit via non-tender? I think he did. Wow. Which non tender was better? That's a legit tough one. JPA was an entitled douche who the club catered to for no reason (traded Napoli, TDA, and Gomes so no one could touch his playing time). Then there was Goins who was always bad but the team continually gave playing time to due to the injury proneness of their middle infielders. Not so tough actually. I guess JPA wins this one. So Goins was my second favorite non tender.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Do you guys think that Reese has a chance to break camp as a backup? Lets face it Maile is junk and they are going to want to give Jansen time at AAA and by all accounts Mcguire is a solid D Catcher and should at least provide as much if not more the Maile at the dish... Would it maybe benefit him more playing with Martin as a mentor?

I think they'll prefer for both to be playing every game than catching once or twice a week in the majors. I agree that being close to Martin could be invaluable in their development though so if Maile becomes a liability hopefully they won't hesitate to promote one of them.

I think we'll see Reese get full time atbats this year in AAA (where he's never played yet), then come up in 2019 and split time with Martin.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Pillar went 3 for 3 today with a walk, and is hitting over .500 in Spring Training. Is the the year his bat finally wakes up........ No (but it's nice to dream!)
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 AA (they could flip too) I'd rather see Jansen start in AAA and Mcguire in AA and if the jays are in the hunt in June bring up Jansen and move Mcguire to AAA.
