Atkins on if Josh Donaldson’s name has come up in talks with St. Louis: “Those are rumours that I think people are speculating on.”

Can you imagine Stro's twitter meltdown if the Jays traded Pillar?

Unfortunately it's not going to happen. At least not yet.

I'm actually really surprised he hasn't said anything about the two recent moves. He did post a video showing his shoe collection though.

That was really weird. He’s a bit egotistical and easy to cheer against.

PIllar's defense isn't down just because you went on Fangraphs and looked at his numbers. He hasn't had a major injury and he just tunred 29 days ago. His physical tools likely won't see a major hit over the next 3 or 4 years. He's in his prime. I don't mind the idea of trading Pillar though. He provides a lot of value with his defense and base running. We could get a quality return to help us other areas/

You should try fangraphs. Your comments and opinions might be more accurate.

Athletes decline after age 29. What you see with Pillar right now is what you get, plus a little crappier every year.

Alford does better than him in year 1. I guarantee it. Plus his ceiling is way higher.

He would hardly get a return on Pillar, but anything works. I want Alford instead of Pillar on the roster.

Pillar would return a reasonable RP.... and this needs to happen

Why does everyone assume Pillar is going to get traded for a good Pitcher? If a team wants a CF they'll just sign Cain or Dyson lol.

Homo slur, remember

I'd be a SJW for a day if it meant I never had to see Pillar swing a bat for the Jays again, but I think that's long forgotten now.

I do hope this is his last season with the Jays, though. Grichuk in RF, Alford in CF, and Teoscar in LF for 2019 would be fine with me.

So you think his physical tools dramatically declined from his age 27 to age 28 season? You said he defense is down. His so called decline was about opportunity and random brain cramps and errors that vary year to year. Defensive stats fluctuate a lot year to year and players peak at different times. The median peak may be 28.5, but a guy like Pillar hasn't had any major injuries. There aren't a lot of GMs in baseball that would be concerned his physical skills won't allow him to be a very similar player defensively to what he is today in his age 29, 30 and age 31 season. Josh Donaldson's last 3 years were his age 29, 30 and 31 seasons...the best of his career.

Lol reasonable RP f*** off. Pillar is a much better asset than some s***** volatile reliever.

Pillar's been awesome value the past three years but he's the type of player that can go from good to replacement level in a hurry. The longer the Jays keep him, the more they are tempting fate.

Do the Jays ever sell high? And I'm not talking about Leone level guys. They'll let Pillar fall apart and rot here.

Pillar is the only guaranteed starter in the OF, isn’t paid very much, has only just turned 29, has been worth 9.5 WAR over the last 3 seasons, and is projected for 2.8 WAR this season.

Giving him away in a trade would be incredibly bad roster management.

Now if someone offers a decent return (e.g. a MLB ready starter +) then absolutely consider it, as once his defence goes he’s worthless. Realistically I don’t see anyone offering that, so his value is greater to us by staying.

Good reasons to trade him at 29 yrs old. For a reliever and good prospect.

I like Pillar - he reminds me of Devon White in certain ways - And White won WS rings here - it's not just one guy. Looking at pillar in a vacuum is a mistake. If this was a top 3 offensive team and Pillar was our number 9 hitter - he would look GREAT - a 3 WAR solid defensive CF who has 15+ homer pop and can run (not a stealer but speedy) is a fantastic little player when you're paying him peanuts.

The problem is he looks vastly worse when you are forced to play him in the lead off spot and the team was last in the AL and near last in baseball on offense - then we start picking at every spot in the order.

In the old days of pre statistical metrics - teams (the ones who won) basically valued defense first up the middle (Pitching, Catcher, SS, 2B and CF) and they didn't care too much about the offense. This team won world series titles with what - Manuel Lee, Pat Borders, Devon White up the middle - yes we had Alomar as the exception but the others were not exactly offensive juggernauts but they could play defense, call a game etc.

Then you expected big bats at 3B/1B, RF,LF. This stuff worked for decades and will still work. We're pretty solid up the middle - Pillar is a solid defensive player with a plausible bat. Martin too, Travis and Tulo when healthy are more than competent defenders.

You have the big bats at 1B and 3B and maybe we get some luck at Morales bounces back and has a bit of an uptick.

I understand Atkins saying it's a team that can compete - if the injuries are lowered the team probably could have won 10 more games than they did last year. I mean Estrada tanked for 2 solid months, our best pitcher, Sanchez, basically missed the whole year. JD missed 2 months, Jose Bautista fell off a cliff. It's a bit of a miracle they managed to hang in the thing as long as they did and won as many games as they won considering the division. An awful lot went really wrong. I mean they were playing Goins and Barney every day (shudder).
