Not sure if this was posted yet but looks like Donaldson is nearing a rehab assignment and Tulo has been cleared for baseball activities.

 

I saw this. The Tulo update came out of nowhere. Man this team has so much f***ing depth.

He should just bench them. Grichuk is probably only 4th OF material anyway (though he does have some upside). Morales can be an overpaid bench bat. Hang on to Pompey for now and keep him in AAA. We can deal him at the deadline for something or next year we can try and clear some space for him.

Well I wouldn't be upset by that at all I just don't see them bailing on a contract before it's even halfway complete.

What's up with Donaldson? Any news on why he played a game at DH and then sat the next day?

Now would be a good time to offer Josh Donaldson a contract extension: 4 years, $110M, 5th year vests @ $25M if he gets 500 PA in year 4. With the time he's missed and his age, the odds are he won't get anywhere near that on the open market this winter.

I wonder if Vlad Jr. would accept some sort of extension that buys out a FA year or two on the condition he's called up almost immediately. Another few weeks of him dominating AA and I don't know what else he could prove down there. If we're only keeping him down to stop his clock from starting, this could solve some problems. Swapping him for Morales would almost certainly be a boost at the plate, plus improve roster flexibility since Vlad can play 3rd.

 

Probably a not well thought-out dream of mine, but I'm ready for some Vladdy and no Morales.

Since they have an off-day on Monday they can throw Garcia and Happ without having to worry about Garcia making his next start on short rest. Here's hoping we see Donaldson back in the starting lineup for at least 1 of the games tomorrow!

Does the 26th man have to be returned to the minors after the double header? Or can they send someone else (like Ngoepe or Ramirez) down after?

If he isn't going to get anywhere near that why the hell would you offer that when you can resign him for cheaper in the offseason.

Because it's still good value and because he could go on an absolute tear when he comes back and still get more than that and because this represents the best chance to re-sign him. We are the only team that can negotiate with him right now. Surely you understand basic concepts of exclusivity and leverage. If he goes to free agency, chances are he will go to another team that offers him equal money to the Jays. Right now, he's more likely to take the guaranteed money in case his season really goes in the crapper.
