Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Gross, 4/68 for Eovaldi would be extremely risky. 4 years, $67.5M
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2018 Author Posted December 6, 2018 I think P2F will also vouch for The Athletic amazing resources for fantasy hockey. P2F Is always quoting Dom's projections to me when trying to convince me to sign off on a move. It can be get annoying but Dom is truly a brilliant fantasy hockey mind Wow!
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 The comments on Sheryl Ring's latest article are an absolute goldmine: Exactly. Everyone was holier than thou the minute the trade happened and then cheered the first 100mph fastball. I think what people Fail to realize is that Russell’s face becomes the face of the abuser to anybody who has been the victim of abuse. His face can literally shell shock a person into paralyzing fear. And the Cubs couldn’t care less. This article does a great job of hopefully awakening some baseball fans to some of the bad stuff In life happening all around them everyday. Well written. I waited my whole life for the cubs to win the World Series. Everything was going great in 2016 until they traded for Chapman. I thought, “Are you kidding me? What about the millions of kids watching?” With that signing, the Cubs’ front office basically said, “Baseball players aren’t role models, or at least the cubs don’t think so or care.” I was deflated that the FO sold our soul…just to win. And then 5 million people celebrated that cheapness? It still makes me sick and now to know that Russell was the same monster during that championship…the win doesn’t count to me. My favorite team lost me as a fan. I root for a different team now because I have really young kids. This. Exactly. My first ballpark experience was seeing the giant green outfield on the North Side. As an adult I moved to Wrigleyville for a few years. But the Cubs lost me as a fan the moment they traded their soul for a gold ring. I’m glad I’m not the only one as everyone around me in Cubs country never seemed to care beyond 4 hours of Twitter posts.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 I'm happy Eovaldi got paid. He risked a lot in the post-season. He was a beast!

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Upside is still there, Minny can afford the risk. I wouldn't either. I'd take him at 7.5 million to man 2nd for us next year.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 I'd take him at 7.5 million to man 2nd for us next year. I'd rather take my chances with Travis, Drury and Gurriel. Not that i think any are better. I wouldn't be shocked if they all outperformed Schoop next year. I also wouldn't be shocked if Schoop outperformed all of them, just doesnt seem like a worthwhile upgrade.

The worthwhile part is flipping him at the deadline if he performs well, while giving guys like Bichette an extra half year to get ready.

Couldn't the same be done with any of the three I mentioned? Why not add a BP arm or starter that can be flipped at the deadline with that 7.5M? Its not like this team needs another middle infielder right now. Gurriel has similar upside to Schoop IMO.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 i doubt we see Bo with the big club in 2019. He'll get the same treatment as Vlad I wonder what the response would be if we were to say, we're not competing next year and we want Vladdy as long as possible when we do. We'll offer him, say $15 million, to remain in the minors voluntarily until mid-may 2020 or whatever. Yeah, it may cost him some money for one year as a free agent, but for a young player it would also give him some financial guarantee early in his career.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Something along the lines of GO f*** YOURSELF
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Something along the lines of GO f*** YOURSELF Well that's what Boras would say, but that's a lot of money before you've every played a major league game, and nothing in the game is guaranteed no matter how good a prospect you are. That would have to be pretty tempting I would think.

That could be a $40M season in his prime.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Alvarez traded for Garcia. The Angels are very dumb. Nevermind, I'm the dumb one. I was thinking of Jose Suarez.

King Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 That's ... weird. From what I'm reading on twitter they both have the same amount of team control left. Alvarez has been fine to good as a middle relief guy and Garcia has been poo although Garcia projects to be better. what a bizarre trade Garcias underlying numbers are pretty good. I predict both guys are DFA'd by June

Average fastball lefty with a decent track record versus an older right-handed fireballer. Same control. Dunno, I guess it looked weirder when I saw the ages rather than the control.
