I didn't want to put trade proposals on the Around thread, but I guess there isn't much else to talk about.

So....Morales ($12m) for Santana ($35m). Phils save $23m and can dump Morales (or use him off the bench), while the Jays get a 2 win improvement and stop gap at 1b/dh.

Santana coming off a down BABIP year (.233) but drew a s*** ton of walks and still displayed his normal power. Seems like a good buy low candidate.

Seems a bit greedy. Toronto would probably have to throw in a B- prospect, I think. And Philly would probably need to time this with a big signing (Philly would be concerned about the optics I think).

Those f***ing Dominican Mexicans can fly. f***ing idiots all over social media complaining about the call/legality of it.

My favourite commenter is The Busta, who claims he is out because his knee made contact with the catcher while the catcher had the ball. The Busta is a middle aged man with kids who's a free thinker, gun toting Democrat, gear head! Sleep, eat, an s*** MMA. Religion...is control - according to The Busta.

The Busta had no idea the guy with the ball actually had to tag the runner - yet he spends his time replying to baseball tweets.

People - FFS - please don't be like The Busta.

They'll be able to jump over any wall Trump builds.

Just a question, why would the Blue Jays take on that much more salary to still not compete? Like I can see if they were tinkering the lineup and in win now mode, but to get an expensive player to still not make the playoffs doesn't make sense given the youth movement going on now.

decent question.

Smoak is likely gone after 2019 and we might be ready to contend in 2020 - so having Santana as our DH (or 1st baseman if Vlad is still butchering 3rd base) then could help the team win? That's the only angle I see.

Gonna be around a .790-.820 OPS and can't run. Bleh at 1B. What the hell is the difference.

17M can buy you decent stuff in free agency nowadays.

The team would at least break even with Santana's contract, he projects to be a 2+ win player. Morales is a complete sunk cost.

Santana is a high obp 2-3 war player. Maybe he’s on a reasonable contract rather than a surplus value contract, but would certainly be an upgrade on Morales, and would also open up DH should they move Smoak as well.

Definitely agree that it would be pointless for wins and losses, unless the Jays can take a step forward in 2019/20. If they plan a strict rebuild and lower payroll by a s*** ton, then yes it wouldn’t make sense. But value in versus value out, it would be a clear upgrade and add wins.

So the decision would be:

Morales for 11M in 2019

vs.

Santana for 17M in 2019 and 18M in 2020

It's close, but I'd prefer to have Santana. It's a no brainer to prefer him in 2019 for the extra 6M, and I'm really not that averse to paying him 18M in 2020, especially with Smoak off the books. You'd probably project like 4 for for 35M vs. 0 WAR for 11M.

I'm also pretty sure that Rowdy Tellez is terrible, so I see Santana as filling a hole in 2018 and 2019, and not as someone who would block Tellez.

Anyone else see Teoscar as a cheap 1B who can Wrc+ 110. And save the $$ bullets for later?

Not too excited about moving a guy who's never played 1B to 1B just to get his projected 98 wRC+ bat into the lineup. I hope he's traded for a reliever or something in the offseason.

Not a bad offer and in a vacuum I'd do it. But given our timeline, what our needs are and how much I anticipate we will have to spend and I think I pass on that. Take the 23 million and sprinkle it around on other needs.

Stopgap mainly, and there is upside in that bat. Avoids spending on some guy like santana at the wrong time

No but I could see him and McKinney platooning in LF which is probably where he belongs.

Now that I look more into this, she seems to be at least at least a 9/10. I now believe she's telling the truth.
