Is it true that TJ surgery is usually only good for 10 years on average? Thought I've read that before.

 

Its been a theory that has been proposed.

Trade looks pretty good for both teams. I thought the Padres could have got more but they got a legit top 20 prospect.

This also makes me wonder if they don't think Andrew Miller is going to come back and be effective. Obviously slides Cody Allen into a lower leverage role.

I mean, I think the article found some level of proof. Since most guys who get TJ are in their mid/late 20's they typically don't last long enough to test the "10 year rule" anyway. Guys like Osuna who had it super young will definitely be interesting case studies because he should still be in his prime at the 10-year mark given that he was what? 18 or 19 when he had the procedure done?

Meh, he's a 27 year old rookie reliever without elite strikeout rates in the minors, I don't think his inclusion is at all significant. The Indians must both a) really like Brad Hand and the impact of elite relievers in the playoffs and B) be quite down on Mejia and his future as a catcher at the MLB level

Adam Cimber also to Cleveland. And yes, for Mejia. I knew he'd get dealt this deadline, but expected him to go in a DeGrom or Archer deal.

 

See, I f***ing knew it arm's will be going for more, in retrospect to years of control, etc... lol. That return is large.

I don't think Cleveland believes Mejia is a viable catcher in the majors.

My guess is they don’t think Mejia sticks at catcher. They might feel they are selling high in that case.

Maybe next year... If the Jays finally catch a break and this legal stuff gets resolved somewhat favourably (although these situations are never really favourable for anyone involved). Young, talented, some control left... Sounds like a good potential haul to me. Jays won't need an elite closer for at least a couple of seasons I think... Find one in 2021 or so when they're hopefully back to a serious player again.

Yup. I'd move Tepera if you can find a team that is desperate and has been impressed with what he's done.

Only because he's so athletic, his pop times and arm are mint. They want to save an athlete that can hit.

Because they've been trying to move him around the field, have been playing the terrible Roberto Perez over him all year, and just traded him for a couple of relievers.

It seems like Relievers with control get the best returns at the deadline in the past several years. Tepera should absolutely be moved. I wonder if someone would overpay for Oh knowing he has a cheap option year next year.

He's really good behind the plate, trying to save an athlete isn't unheard of. Marlins tried with Realmuto, but he loved being behind the dish.

Apparently he takes ground balls at Third Base everyday. Hasn't had start there since last year though. Hes got intriguing versatility upside with his bat carrying him. Exciting prospect.

I've read a lot of people over the last year hint at Cleveland questioning his ability to stick at catcher.

Receiving is coachable. His foot-work pop times and arm is a plus.

 

Read the recent reports, bro. Even his own organization (Cleveland) wasn't impressed with him behind the plate.
